Auckland - The 1987 All Blacks will reunite for the first time since they won the inaugural Rugby World Cup on home soil.
According to the allblacks.com website, the team will hold a first full reunion during this year's tournament in October, 24 years on from their own World Cup glory, as a fundraiser for the John Drake Memorial Scholarship.
All 25 players and team management from the 1987 team will come together for a black-tie dinner for 750 at the Ellerslie racecourse in Auckland on October 11, between the quarter-finals and semi-finals.
Drake, a prop in the 1987 team, died in December 2008 aged 49. The scholarship honouring his name is awarded annually to an outstanding all-around school leaver enrolling at the University of Auckland.
The attendance of the entire team shows the esteem in which Drake was held, said Sir Brian Lochore, coach of the 1987 team.
"Some are coming a very long way - Zinzan Brooke, Sean Fitzpatrick and John Gallagher from England and John Kirwan, Steve McDowell and Kieran Crowley as coaches of Japan, Romania and Canada, respectively."
Lochore added: "As the only All Blacks to have lifted the Webb Ellis trophy, the 1987 team are a unique and special group. Naturally we are hoping that when the dinner comes round the 2011 team are well on the way to emulating our feat."
