Jean to finish career in SA

Cape Town - Springbok centre Jean de Villiers says he intends to finish his career in South Africa with Western province, opting not to go overseas.

The talented midfielder told the Rapport newspaper that he won't go back to play for Irish province, Munster, after the World Cup. De Villiers played for the Irish giants in 2009 and 2010.

"I'm staying with WP and will finish my career there," said the 30-year old veteran of 67 Test caps.

"Hopefully I can play there (WP) for three or four more seasons, or as long as they need me," said De Villiers.

De Villiers is adamant to also give something back to the game once his playing career comes to an end. "Maybe I could help bring the young guns through the system."

The Western Province Rugby Union is yet to make an official announcement about De Villiers's contract, but Sport24 has been reliably informed that it will be a three-year contract.

But before De Villiers starts thinking about his future, his immediate aim is to do well at the current World Cup in New Zealand. The centre missed out on the 2003 World Cup due to injury and was again ruled out in the Boks' first game against Samoa in the 2007 tournament.

So this time it could be last chance saloon at a World Cup for the midfielder, hence the extra motivation.

"I'm really looking forward to the tournament, because my previous two were cut short," said De Villiers.
