'Not many' Bok weaknesses

2011-08-30 11:52

Canberra - Jake White has said that he can see few weaknesses in Peter de Villiers’ Bok squad provided the players are managed correctly.

Speaking from his RugbyXV website, White said it was a good squad, but said that a few injuries might vastly change things for the Springboks.

“There aren't too many weaknesses, and with any squad, there are many permutations. If certain players get injured, who comes in and where they fill in is where you can judge the entire squad.”

“Peter de Villiers has said he's going to play his strongest side all the time. Therefore, it's difficult to analyse the rest of the squad and what their value will be,” White said.

White indicated that the events of the Tri-Nations would not impact on the World Cup.

White ‘s 2007 World Cup-winning Springboks, like Peter de Villier’s team, finished their Tri-Nations campaign at the bottom of the Tri-Nations table, after suffering three defeats in a row before they headed into their World Cup campaign.

White said, similarly, he didn’t believe that New Zealand’s two losses on the trot would impact negatively on New Zealand’s frame of mind heading into the World Cup.

“It doesn't mean anything about who'll win the World Cup, while some will say it's good for New Zealand, because there's less expectation.”

“It may be better for them heading into a World Cup with their public knowing they can't win everything.”

    Thanks Jake.

      KingTshepo - 2011-08-30 12:26

two weaknesses in the team 1. John smit 2. Brian Habana.... i'd bring John smit on in the last 10 minutes depending on the score of course assuming we have a good lead so obviously start with bismark and then i'd start with hougaard on the wing with habana coming on somewhere towards the end of the game......

      flowing river - 2011-08-30 12:31

How many South Africans is there playing for England in this WC......? and why?

      McDaNife - 2011-08-30 12:43

Jakes you mean you actually said that, its been a long while man.

      Kaapie - 2011-08-30 13:07

@ Flowing river...and the point is... all those okes in English squad werent even featuring here..

      Shawn - 2011-08-30 13:32

last week you had something negative to say, this week your agenda`s changed...why dont you hou your bek and focus on the Bumblebees...

      flowing river - 2011-08-30 13:52

@kaapie .....the point is that wen it comes to cricket these okes moan about the the quota system etc and how its forced them to play 4 England .....why dont they do the same for rugby.......?

      Common_Sense - 2011-08-30 13:58

@KingTshepo - I agree. Bismaark should start and I'd love to see Hougaard in the starting team too. Habana did have a good game against the ABs though. If he doesn't shoot out of his line we may be ok (although he does it every game). Think I would replace Pieterson with Hougaard. Hougaard is such a great runner and has a mean sidestep. Something all the AB and Wallabie wings possess. @flowing river: There are more NZ born players in the England team than Saffas (4 vs 3). Plus most of th rest of the team is foreign so SA is of no consequence. Not sure what your point was.

      Chief Kok - 2011-08-30 14:09

There is just one weakness and that is the whole squad.

      Viv - 2011-08-30 14:18

@ Chief Kok - AB's are nothing without Richie and Dan so you better hope they dont get injured. Going to be a bloody exciting WC though. Let's keep the comments friendly and sportsman like guys. Rather read a good banter between passionate supporters than nasty and unnecessary comments.

      JohnnyBB - 2011-08-30 16:23

...only 2 Bok weaknesses... ....John has-been Smit .....and AA-BEE-PDV....

      Neilson - 2011-08-30 22:13

@KingTshepo: Habana is still the best wing in South Africa. And you the biggest fool on this forum... and there are serious idiots in here.

      Rudolf - 2011-08-30 12:41

Elliot, it looks like the public opinion is with me on this one if I look at the amount of likes that I have received, compared to you! Thus i Might be a fool...... but as far as I know, it takes one to know one :)

      Elliot - 2011-08-30 12:43

Rudolf grow up. Are you really watching who gets the most votes. It looks like not only are you childish but you also have a brain of a child

      terry - 2011-08-30 13:08

@elliot and rudolph - why don't you 2 share phone numbers and take this silly little spat off-line!

      Rudolf - 2011-08-30 13:18

Dear Elliot please don't lose too much sleep over it! I would hate to have you lie awake at night thinking..."Will what I, Elliot, comment on news24 today make a difference in someone's life today" Moet tog nie so Tjoppie wees nie :) Jake White has won a World Cup.... What have you or your tjommie Snorre achieved except for getting out of your mothers womb! Jy moet 'n lekker daggie he, hoor, OK. @ Terry you must be in management with great ideas like that, thanks for your comment it is right on topic :)

      Viv - 2011-08-30 14:21

@ Rudolph - speak English man! Your jibberish makes no sense. Sweet dream of Elliot Rudi!!

      TCM - 2011-08-31 15:32

please paste the link where he said that?

  • Riaan - 2011-08-30 12:18

a month ago Jake said he will not choose a lot of south africans for a world 15, now he actually think we have little weekneses, i think we got two players that no team have, brussouw is the best there is no one can match him, then we have frans steyn,no one can kick as far as what he can, if they can get involved in each game we will succeed to defend the title!!!!!!!!!!!

      Lions Man - 2011-08-30 12:49

      Airborne68 - 2011-08-30 14:03

      @Lions: - 2011-08-30 15:44

@Riaan: Frans Steyn has lost some of his distance of late... pity. Also, records wise, Dan Carter has been known to kick 60m+ kicks as well ;) Anyway, all our players have the potential for brilliance - not just those two. We have a few former IRB players of the year in the mix as well, and if fitness and few or no injuries permit, Brussouw may very well join that elite group quite soon. Jake White is right, this is a side with immense strength, a good mix of experience and lots of BMT. Let's hope injuries are kept at a minimum. We have the best chance in history to defend our title. Depending on how much special treatment the AB's receive from the referees, we have a better chance than most to win it. Provided the refs play fair....

  • Leighton - 2011-08-30 12:20

Are these the words of the same person, who not too long ago, critised the Boks for lack of game plan, lack of quality players, lack of defense & lack coaching? Jake...put a cork in it

      Lions Man - 2011-08-30 13:01

Please paste the link/links? Would LOVE to see where he said we lack quality players when 13/15 players from his world cup winning squad are in this 2011 team...

  • - 2011-08-30 12:23

Jake is suffering from schizophrenia. So Jake..... EFFFF you and your imaginary friends!!!!!

      Bulldozer - 2011-08-30 12:30

Please look up the meaning of the word 'Schizophrenia' and try again. Thank you.

      jk - 2011-08-30 14:07

i agree, jakie does suffer from a rare illness...

Too little too late Jake... After al the junk he has been saying about the squad and the coaching, I couldnt care less..

      Lions Man - 2011-08-30 12:57

      Scotland needs your support!

  • Lions Man - 2011-08-30 12:44

omg its really pathetic how the wannabe rugby experts slate the man who took our team to winning the last world cup and won a junior world cup. Which part of the fact that sports 24 publishes articles from HIS OWN website do you lot not understand??? When you lot have won a world cup gold medal then come and have your say.

      Mxolisi - 2011-08-30 13:05

Lions Man he did a good job with the Boks that we cant take away but if his comments are disgusting then we must not reprimand him.Like that time when he wanted to Hijack the team from Pieter.Good coaches give opinions not attack their replacements and plan to hijack

      Lions Man - 2011-08-30 13:17

Mxolisi you can't seriously believe that he wanted to 'hijack' the team? That was made up by the press to generate views... why would he want to do that after the way he was treated by SARU? Reread what I said, he writes things on his OWN website and sports24 publishes them here. The fact that he won a world cup, actually two, gives him the right to comment. In this country people like to break people down if they are successful and know what they talking about. I for one value his opinion highly if you look at his credentials. Whats 'disgusting' about mentioning our weak defense? We all know its weak but god forbid the ex world cup winning coach says as much on his own website...

      Nostrilite - 2011-08-30 16:55

      Well said Lions man!

      Karoobloed - 2011-08-30 21:37

Agreed. Jake White is villified on very flimsy premises.

  • bokgat1 - 2011-08-30 14:23

Sucking up now. No-one want to join him in the ACT with O'Connor now moving to the Rebels

  • Sportslover - 2011-08-30 14:24

Of course Jake is going to say the team is good, his own agenda is not against the team, but the coach. All the criticism he has laid in the last few weeks has all been geared up to this so he can say I told you so! I really wish that news 24 would start getting other opinions from analysts, getting tired of Jake and his personal agendas.

  • patrickb - 2011-08-30 15:14
