Ioane hopeful for quick return

Wellington - Australia wing Digby Ioane hopes a warm homecoming will help dispel some of the frustration he is feeling from not playing an active part at the Rugby World Cup.

Ioane says the cast he has worn since he broke his right thumb in the Pool C match against Italy nine days ago is likely to come off this week. He is clinging to the optimistic prognosis that he may be available for the quarterfinals in October.

Making it more frustrating is the fact that he was forced to watch the Wallabies' 15-6 loss to Ireland last Saturday from the sidelines.

He says a family reunion just outside Wellington on Tuesday might help ease that frustration and take away some of the sting of idleness.
