Johannesburg - The three wins by the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand had made South Africa proud, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula said on Friday.
"I am proud of the Springboks... We must never doubt them. Each and every one of them in that team is a proud South African," he told reporters in Sandton, Johannesburg.
"Maak hulle lekker [loosely translated as 'sort them out'], Springboks in New Zealand. I don't want to say that other word (moer) ['thrash' them]."
He said every one of the players he had interacted with would die with their boots on for the sake of the country. This dedication to the sport had inspired citizens to back the team in the tournament.
"We started with Fiji. We're going to mors ['mess'] them [Samoa] and we're going to tantalise them and finish them [by beating] New Zealand. And then we come back with the cup to South Africa."
He said he had never contradicted himself when it came to supporting the national rugby team.
"I am very clear about our support for the Springboks. This year, we have supported every team in our country."
The Springboks play Samoa in their last pool match next Friday. On Thursday, they beat Namibia 87-0.
