Boertjie on England's bench

London - England coach Martin Johnson has picked South African-born lock Mouritz Botha on the bench in a World Cup warm-up match against Wales at Twickenham on Saturday.

The 29-year Saracens lock was born in Vryheid in Kwazulu-Natal and grew up in Calvinia in the Northern Cape.

He has been lauded by the English media after a great season in the English Premiership, and became eligible to play for England this year.

Leicester center Manu Tuilagi will also make his England debut.

The 20-year-old Tuilagi, who was born in Samoa, gets to play despite being suspended for five weeks at club level for punching fellow England squad member Chris Ashton during a Premiership match last season.

"I'm really proud to be winning my first cap," said Tuilangi. "There is a lot of competition for places and I just want to take this chance and do the best I can for the team."

Tuilagi, who will partner Riki Flutey, was voted Premiership young player of the year last season and will be looking to keep his place on August 22 when coach Johnson reduces his provisional 40-man squad to the 30 who will travel to the World Cup in New Zealand.

Prop Matt Stevens also returns to the starting line-up after a ban stretching back to 2009 for testing positive for cocaine.

Stevens has made 32 appearances for England, including the 2007 World Cup final.

World Cup winner Jonny Wilkinson will be in the team captained by flanker Lewis Moody.

Wing Charlie Sharples is also on the bench. He will be making his Test debut if used as a replacement.
