Aussie prop out of World Cup

Brisbane - Injured Australia prop Benn Robinson will miss the Rugby World Cup after electing to undergo knee surgery.

The 42-Test veteran was seen as only a slim chance of selection to the Wallabies' World Cup squad after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament before the Australia-Samoa Test in Sydney last month.

In a post on his Twitter page late Monday, Robinson says: "Heading in for surgery tomorrow!! Pushed really hard to make it but knee just isn't right!! Very disheartening!!"

Robinson was an unlucky late omission from the Wallabies' squad for the 2007 World Cup.

On Thursday, Australia will name their 30-man squad for this year's World Cup in New Zealand from Sept. 9 to Oct. 23.
