Os warns of Wallaby ‘tricks’ at scrum time

Cape Town - Legendary former Springbok prop Os du Randt has warned his former team about possible tactics the Wallabies could employ at scrum time during Saturday’s Rugby Championship Test in Perth.

The Springboks impressed with their scrummaging during their opening two games in the competition against Argentina.

The Wallabies, meanwhile, struggled in this department in losses to the All Blacks and Du Randt expects them to pay special attention to that area ahead of Saturday’s Test.

In an interview with Netwerk24, Du Randt said this could lead to Australia neglecting their attacking play and defence.

Du Randt, who played 80 Tests between 1994 and 2007, said he was particularly impressed by the performances of tighthead prop Coenie Oosthuizen and expects the Wallabies to heave a few tricks of their sleeve.

“I think they’ll let the ball come out just as fast as it was rolled in. They wouldn’t want to go either forward or backward, but just be able to stand their ground. They’ll come up with a few tricks and they’ll definitely test the referee’s judgment - for example by attempting to collapse of sway the scrum at times.”

New Zealand’s Glen Jackson has been appointed as referee for Saturday’s Test.

Kick-off is 12:05 SA time.
