Boks 'boast' poor record in Christchurch

Cape Town - You have to go back all the way to 1965 to find the last time that South Africa won a Test against the All Blacks in Christchurch. 

The Boks won 19-16 that day, outscoring New Zealand by four tries to three. 

Legendary centre John Gainsford and left wing Gertjie Brynard scored two tries apiece, while lock Tiny Naude kicked a penalty and two conversions. 

The Boks would have to wait until 1981 for their next assignment in Christchurch, but this time it didn't go according to plan as they went down 14-9 with a try from lock Hennie Bekker to show for their efforts. 

Isolation followed, and the Boks have since played four more matches in Christchurch in the modern era - losing them all. 

The closest they came was in 2004 when they went down 23-21. 

Remarkably, the Boks outscored the All Blacks by three tries to one that day, but discipline let them down as the hosts kicked six penalties.

1956 - NZ 17-10 SA

1965 - NZ 16-19 SA

1981 - NZ 14-9 SA

1996 - NZ 15-11 SA

2000 - NZ 25-12 SA

2004 - NZ 23-21 SA

2007 - NZ 33-6 SA
