Charles Piutau is the man of the match tonight.

25 Jul 18:57

The Boks will feel that, much like last week, they let that one get away.

Many positives however, but the All Blacks can never be given a sniff.

25 Jul 18:40

60' - The Boks opt to scrum with Whitelock off the field. The All Blacks take the scrum to ground and concede another penalty. They will scrum again!
25 Jul 18:33

25 Jul 18:23
52' - The Boks employ the rolling maul for the first time to day. The All Blacks are penalised for collapsing it. Whitelock is the guilty party. Pollard sets up a lineout 5m from the visitors line.

49' - CONVERSION added by Sopoaga.

It's all square once again!

South Africa 17 New Zealand 17

25 Jul 18:19

49' - TRY to the All Blacks!

That is why they are the best team in the world. The All Blacks hit back straight away through Coles who breaks the line and shows excellent pace to beat the Bok defence.

South Africa 17 New Zealand 15

25 Jul 18:17

Second half underway as Sopoaga kicks off for the All Blacks...
25 Jul 17:59

South Africa 10 New Zealand 10

A truly epic first half of rugby. More to follow...

25 Jul 17:58

40' - CONVERSION slotted by Sopoaga.

The All Black flyhalf ties the game up as the hooter sounds.

25 Jul 17:57

40' - TRY to the All Blacks

B Smith runs the ball in down the right touchline and is able to score near the uprights. All this after the All Blacks counter-attacked brilliantly. Sopoaga did really well, first to run into acres of space and then find Smith with a pinpoint floated pass out to the right. The Boks will be livid to concede on the stroke of half-time.

South Africa 10 New Zealand 8

25 Jul 17:54

39' - Bok substitution

Pollard is off for a concussion test. Lambie replaces him.

25 Jul 17:53
39' - Incredible attacking play from the Boks again, De Allende is having a blinder, smashing All Blacks backwards as he storms upfield. Le Roux tries to find Hendricks as he is tackled from behind but his pass goes out into touch.
  • 80'

PENALTY, NEW ZEALAND, SOPOAGA! 20-27! That seals the win! The All Blacks did it the hard way but they have won at Ellis Park, as Sopoaga adds another three points to make it 27-20 before the final whistle.

  • 80'

A fantastic Test match with both sides giving it absolutely everything, but New Zealand found that way to win again. McCaw plays his last game on South African soil with a win and the Springboks will be bitterly disappointed for certain, but their young players were magnificent. However it's New Zealand who get the win in Johannesburg by seven points, with two wins from their first two matches in this year's Rugby Championship.

  • 80'

  • 79'

Mapoe on for his South Africa debut as we set up for a NZ scrum following that lineout. Big run from Read, back to Conrad Smith. All Blacks trying to run down the clock and doing it well. Penalty to New Zealand! That could be it. Chance for Sopoaga to add three more points and he will go for the posts.

  • 78'

Wild pass from Sopoaga flies out into touch, giving the Springboks a lineout but from deep in their own half.

  • 77'

The Springboks still have time but Lambie is held up in the tackle, winning the All Blacks a scrum, and an uncontested one at that.

  • 75'

CONVERSION, NEW ZEALAND, SOPOAGA! 20-24: Important conversion by the fly-half as New Zealand crucially lead by four points.

  • 74'

TRY, NEW ZEALAND, MCCAW! 20-22: NZ feeling the momentum and kick into the corner. A clever lineout play and they've scored through McCaw! On his 140th cap! Bold play with McCaw coasting through the middle of the lineout and it works perfectly.

  • 72'

Overthrown lineout by SA, Taylor securing the ball. Good run from Piutau out wide, penalty advantage for the All Blacks. Long attack from the visitors, over ten phases, another advantage. Piutau so close to the line, offload from Vito made the chance. All Blacks inches short... Retallick held up so we come back for the penalty. It''s breathless stuff!

  • 69'

Scrums are still uncontested with the Boks having lost both by Jannie du Plessis and Koch to injury. Penalty won by the Boks! Read the man penalised and SA have a chance to clear.

  • 68'

Clever from Pienaar as he spots some space down the blindside and dabs a kick through to touch. NZ win it and try to run from their 22, with Fekitoa breaking! Knocked on, advantage to NZ but we'll come back for the scrum. Great break from the replacement back and an equally good tackle by Lambie.

  • 66'

Lost forward by the All Blacks taking that high ball, scrum for the Boks. New Zealand still down to 14 men. Penalty to SA for an early tackle and they go to touch in the NZ half.

  • 64'

Hooked away to the left by Sopoaga so the Boks remain ahead by three points. SA to have the 22 dropout.

  • 63'

Messam and Smith combine to end a real period of pressure in their own 22. Lineout stolen by NZ! Chance for some possession but Aaron Smith kicks long. Chip and chase from Habana taken by Aaron Smith who was brave there, before NZ win a penalty. Chance for Sopoaga to level the scores.

  • 62'

Lost forward by Koch! The replacement prop spills it forward and now the All Blacks have a scrum just short of their line.

  • 61'

South Africa opt for a scrum five metres out from the New Zealand line. De Jager off for Van der Merwe. Big moment.

  • 61'

Penalty advantage for SA who rumble forwards... are they over? No try, held up, but we go back for the penalty. Another scrum!

  • 60'

YELLOW CARD, NEW ZEALAND, WHITELOCK! The All Blacks are down to 14 men as the replacement lock goes to the bin.

  • 59'

Le Roux breaks upfield! Straight through a gap with Pienaar on his shoulder, who kicks long. Loose ball knocked on by Read as SA keep on the attack, Koch with a run. Referee playing advantage as they build the phases. Back for the penalty and the referee is going to his pocket...

  • 57'

PENALTY, SOUTH AFRICA, POLLARD! 20-17: Easy kick for the fly-half and the Boks are back in the lead.

  • 56'

Solid scrum before NZ go offside. Pass from Burger just knocked on so we come back for the penalty. Pollard to go for the points.

  • 55'

Effective maul from the Boks as they split into pods and barrel towards the line, but the referee isn't sure. Upstairs to the TMO we go!

  • 55'

No try - De Jager just short of the line as he tried to ground the ball. Scrum for the Boks five metres out.

  • 54'

SA trying to drive their maul forward and they get the penalty! Pollard goes back to the corner.

  • 53'

Excellent touchfinder from the Boks after winning the penalty, pinning the All Blacks back into their 22.

  • 52'

Aaron Smith calming things down with a low kick into touch after a frantic start to this second half.

  • 50'

CONVERSION, NEW ZEALAND, SOPOAGA! 17-17: Simple conversion and we're tied again!

  • 49'

TRY, NEW ZEALAND, COLES! 17-15: They always come right back! Coles hits a line and Le Roux stands no chance as the hooker speeds over for the All Blacks' second try.

  • 47'

CONVERSION, SOUTH AFRICA, POLLARD! 17-10: Two more points for Pollard as the Boks regain their lead.

  • 46'

Box kick from Smith takes a deflection as SA recover the ball, winning a penalty for offside. Chance to gain some valuable territory.

  • 46'

TRY, SOUTH AFRICA, KRIEL! 15-10: Two tries in one week for Kriel! The centre hits the line off Pollard''s pass and has the speed to power through the tackle, run straight and score by the posts. Top finish.

  • 44'

Great composure from Piutau, clearing up a dangerous kick ahead with Le Roux and Habana chasing before NZ win the penalty. Sopoaga clears to touch outside his half.

  • 43'

Another replacement is in the Springbok front row, with Koch on for his Test debut, replacing Jannie du Plessis. Whiteley also on for his debut as temporary replacement.

  • 42'

Wonderful take by Retallick as NZ go on the attack. Now up to the SA 22. Sam Whitelock on for Broadhurst in the second row for the All Blacks. Turnover by Brüssow, wide to Habana who is tackled high. Penalty, chance to clear.

  • 40'

TRY, NEW ZEALAND, BEN SMITH! 10-8: All Blacks win the lineout and clear, before turning the ball over at the ruck. Sopoaga breaks the line! Great pace from the fly-half who has a cool enough head to pass out to Ben Smith for a super try by New Zealand. Game on!

  • 40'

CONVERSION, NEW ZEALAND, SOPOAGA! 10-10: Easy two for Sopoaga and it's all square at half-time. What a key moment that try might be later on.

  • 40'

Sopoaga's kick is the last act of the half as both sides head down to the tunnel - it's been an excellent 40 minutes. South Africa will be bitterly disappointed to be going in level but it's all to play for in the second half in Johannesburg.

  • 40'

  • 40'

Time for the second half as Sopoaga prepares to get us underway. Who will come out on top?

  • 38'

Solid scrum and Pollard thumps it long. Quick lineout, NZ looking for a final attack. Great turnover from Bismarck du Plessis though as the Boks counter. Pass from Le Roux just goes behind the man into touch, but impressive play from the hosts.

  • 37'

Broadhurst held up in the tackle and that's a scrum for the Boks, sharp defence from Brüssow and his team-mates. Dangerous attack there for NZ but SA recovered and can clear from their own 22.

  • 36'

Space out wide for Kriel but Piutau does brilliantly to both tackle and steal the ball away, before Sopoaga kicks long. High reply from Pollard but that's super from Dagg who releases Ben Smith! Attack now for the All Blacks.

  • 34'

Sopoaga just misses his second attempt, SA still ahead by seven.

  • 33'

Kick from Pollard is low and to the left, so it remains 10-3. Sopoaga with a good restart putting Hendricks under pressure. Brilliant counter-attack from Piutau ends with NZ winning a penalty deep in the SA half when Brüssow goes off his feet. Sopoaga lining up a shot.

  • 31'

All Blacks penalised for not rolling away, Woodcock the offender. Pollard considering a shot at the posts from just inside his own half. He's going for it.

  • 30'

61 percent possession for the Boks so far but Read steals that lineout. Both sides turn the ball over, first Jannie du Plessis and then Aaron Smith, before Smith's pass spills out into touch. SA lineout.

  • 29'

Kick from Pollard is easy for Piutau who then finds a very good touchfinder, taking the play back to half-way. Springboks still ahead by seven.

  • 29'

Le Roux produces a perfect kick into the corner, the bounce just going the right side of the flag. NZ though go quick, before Aaron Smith kicks to touch.

  • 27'

NZ with another scrum, the time out on the far side but with lots of space to attack. Read carries off the base, but that's a penalty to the Boks at the breakdown, Kriel getting the claps from his team-mates. Pollard kicks long.

  • 26'

Set play from the All Blacks but Piutau's pass goes loose, Habana just knocking on trying to gather the loose ball. Game is stopped after Habana goes down, with the medical staff coming on.

  • 24'

Free kick for NZ and they call for a scrum, down near the touchline just outside the SA 22. Good position to strike.

  • 23'

Free kick to SA, Le Roux putting Hendricks into space. Penalty though to the All Blacks, Read turning the ball over at the breakdown. Chance to clear for the visitors.

  • 22'

Dagg knocks on going for the high kick so SA have a scrum just inside their own half.

  • 20'

PENALTY, SOUTH AFRICA, POLLARD! 10-3: Pollard goes two from two as SA now lead by seven.

  • 19'

Strong run from the captain Burger as the Boks play with real pace, huge collisions all over the field. NZ tacklers being shrugged off before we come back for a penalty for offside. Bright start from South Africa.

  • 17'

Massive scrum from the Springbok eight! They win the penalty and Pollard finds touch with the kick. Great work from the home side.

  • 16'

NZ with another basic error - winning a kickable penalty but tapping before Conrad Smith knocks on trying to Aaron Smith's pass. Scrum to SA.

  • 15'

Patient attack from NZ outside the SA 22. Small knock-on from the Boks so we will have a scrum.

  • 13'

Poor pass from Bismarck du Plessis puts his side under pressure before Le Roux gets back to mop up the loose ball near his own line. Pollard clears to touch, NZ in a good position.

  • 11'

CONVERSION, SOUTH AFRICA, POLLARD! 7-3: Extra two points from Pollard as the Boks enhance their advantage.

  • 10'

TRY, SOUTH AFRICA, LE ROUX! 5-3: NZ keeping the pace high, as both sides trade kicks. High from Pienaar but Dagg is comfortable before putting Read under pressure, turnover ball for SA! Le Roux onto the pass at pace and he splits the defence to score! Well-worked try from the home side.

  • 9'

De Jager claims the restart as SA attack again. Multiple phases before the ball goes to Hendricks who is tackled into touch. NZ go quick, moving the ball in their 22 before Sopoaga''s low kick is taken by Etzebeth. Chance to counter for the hosts, but Pollard''s chip is marked by Ben Smith before NZ tap and go.

  • 7'

NZ get the ball away through Aaron Smith, return from Habana just going too long so it's a 22 dropout to NZ. Tense early moments at a very chilly Ellis Park.

  • 5'

Lost forward by Habana chasing the restart so NZ clear. Louw with a good run over halfway, wide to Hendricks who avoids touch, just. Kriel breaks a tackle as SA keep the ball in hand. Habana breaks through! Over the 22 but the ball goes forward, scrum to the All Blacks.

  • 3'

PENALTY, NEW ZEALAND, SOPOAGA! 0-3: Successful strike and Sopoaga has his first points in Test rugby! All Blacks lead.

  • 2'

Box kick well taken by Piutau before Broadhurst takes a big tackle with his first touch in Test rugby, but it's a penalty to NZ. Sopoaga lining up the posts.

  • 1'

Immedaite penalty for the All Blacks as Kriel fails to release at the ruck. Tapped and Nonu kicks to touch.

  • 0'

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of this Rugby Championship match from Johannesburg as South Africa face New Zealand.

  • 0'

Heinrich Brüssow will make his first start for the Springboks since the 2011 Rugby World Cup on the openside flank, moving Francois Louw to the other side of the scrum, where he takes over from the injured Marcell Coetzee. In an enforced change, Cornal Hendricks starts on the wing in the place of JP Pietersen, giving Mapoe a chance off the bench. Fellow debutant Koch is one of five changes to the bench.

  • 0'

Lima Sopoaga and James Broadhurst will make their All Black debuts at fly-half and in the second row respectively as they take over from Dan Carter and Luke Romano in a total of seven changes to the New Zealand starting line-up. Dane Coles returns at hooker with Liam Messam at blindside flanker. Aaron Smith is back at scrum-half, while Ma'a Nonu and Conrad Smith are reunited in midfield. Ben Smith is on the right wing as Julian Savea drops out after an asthma attack during training.

  • 0'

It might be a bit chilly at Ellis Park but no rain is expected. A slight breeze for the kickers but nothing too tricky. Blue skies above.

  • 0'

The players are out on the pitch at Ellis Park as we go through the anthems - there really is a bubbling atmosphere in the ground. Two rousing anthems and now it's time for the haka!

  • 0'

The Kapa O Panga led by Messam has set us up for kick-off now at Ellis Park. Pollard to do the honours. We're underway!
