Cape Town - Following their Rugby Championship win over the Wallabies, the Springboks have consolidated their second spot on the International Rugby Board (IRB) rankings.
The Boks were in danger of losing their No 2 ranking to the Aussies, but made sure they remain the second best team in the world with a 28-10 victory at Newlands.
According to the IRB's official website, the Wallabies remain No 3 in the world with England fourth, although the gap between the two has closed to 1.39 points after Australia's loss at Newlands.
Trailing 10-8 until the final 10 minutes of the match, Springbok captain Jean de Villiers scored twice either side of a Pat Lambie try to seal a bonus-point win that guarantees them second place in the final standings.
The win in Cape Town saw South Africa gain 1.03 of a point to move onto 89.27 - 4.48 points behind the All Blacks, who remain unchanged on 93.75 points following their Rugby Championship title-clinching win over Argentina.
The Boks tackle the All Blacks at Ellis Park this weekend to conclude their Rugby Championship campaign.
