Rugby boost for Soweto

Johannesburg - The organisers of the Soweto Rugby Tournament hope to boost the development of the sport in the historic township when the competition is revived at the end of April.

"Our vision as a club is to have a strong brand in quality of rugby played, and sports marketing in the township and throughout the country, even internationally," Zola Ntlokoma, the Soweto Rugby Club (SRC) secretary, said on Thursday.

"Ultimately we want to build a strong hub of the game of rugby by identifying and introducing new talent and nurturing it for greater opportunities within the sport.

"This is also contributing towards the transformation of rugby and this effort will largely have to come from development teams."

The tournament will be played for the first time in six years, in order to celebrate the SRC's 20-year anniversary, between April 28-30.

It will feature club teams from four provinces.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
