Sydney - Former Wallaby Julian Huxley was Wednesday announced as the latest signing for new Australian Super 15 club Melbourne Rebels, two months after battling back from a brain tumour.
Huxley, 30, made a triumphant return to Super rugby with the Brumbies in March, playing a key role in his team's victory over last season's finalists the Chiefs.
The former Wallabies' utility back said the Brumbies and rugby community had been extremely supportive during his illness and recovery and he now needed to "start a new chapter in my life."
"It's very rare to get the opportunity to be a part of a start-up, to help build the foundations of a club. I am extremely fortunate to have this chance," Huxley said.
"I must say I have a more holistic approach to life through my recent experience and I expect Melbourne to offer as much off the field as on."
Huxley, the Rebels' 19th signing, joined the Brumbies in 2002 and returned to them in 2007 after three years with the Reds. He was capped nine times by the Wallabies in 2007.
His career was put on hold in 2008 when a routine scan following a blow to the head revealed a benign brain tumour. Rebels' head coach Rod Macqueen said Huxley had come back to the game in great form.
"He brings with him a fantastic attitude to life and the game we can all learn from," Macqueen said. "He is an intelligent player who will make a significant contribution to the Rebels."
The Rebels have already signed former Wallabies skipper Stirling Mortlock, England flyhalf Danny Cipriani, All Blacks prop Greg Somerville, Welsh forward Gareth Delve and former Wallabies' hooker Adam Freier.
The Rebels will play their first match next February at the start of the inaugural Super 15 season.
