Cape Town - Former All Blacks centre Pita Alatini says he has been approached by Stormers coach Rassie Erasmus to play for Western Province and the Stormers next season.
“I am interested in playing competitive rugby in the Currie Cup and the Super 14 especially in Cape Town,” Alatini said in an email from Japan.
The 33-year old has played 17 Tests for the All Blacks. He has also played Super Rugby for the Chiefs, Crusaders, Highlanders and the Hurricanes. Since 2006 he has been plying his trade in Japan where he first played for Suntory and is now with the Kamaishi Seawaves rugby club in Japan.
Alatini is married to a South African woman, Megan, who is originally from George.
The fleet footed centre who can also play flyhalf and fullback, is considering a move to Cape Town in December.
His wife is a renowned singer in New Zealand where she recently had the honour of singing the South African national anthem, Nkosi Sikelela iAfrika, before the Tri-Nations Test between the All Blacks and the Springboks in Hamilton.
According WP Rugby’s CEO, Rob Wagner, he is not aware of any discussions with Alatini.
