Andre Pretorius (Gallo)

Sydney - Former Springbok flyhalf Andre Pretorius is considering an offer to play for the Force next season, the Australian provincial side said on Thursday.

The 31-Test Pretorius, who missed out on the South African squad for this month's series against the British and Irish Lions, was interested in the Force offer, officials said.

Force's general manager for rugby, Mitch Hardy, said the Perth-based outfit had made an offer to 30-year-old Pretorius after Stormers flyhalf Peter Grant had knocked back an approach.

"He's (Pretorius) interested," Hardy said. "(Coach) John Mitchell's had a chat to him and we've put an offer in front of him and we are just waiting for a decision.

"He has to weigh up where his rugby aspirations lie as to whether he still aspires to play for the Springboks and be involved in Currie Cup campaigns back in South Africa.

"We are hoping that the contract we put together will allow him to achieve both those options."

The Force are looking for an experienced playmaker following the loss of Wallaby flyhalf Matt Giteau to Australian rivals, the Brumbies.

The franchise is also waiting on a decision from Wallabies' prop Matt Dunning on whether he will join them next year from the Waratahs.

I am a lions supporter and will stay one for many a years to come.We were great and think Loius Luyt would've sent out a few faxes long ago,but I believe we can still stand up from this scenario. I am a Andre fan and also believe if it wasn't for injuries he would have been great. He is not a youngster in the game anymore and with all the injuries don't have many seasons of rugby in him so I think it would be in his best interest to take the offer, only for the money.I believe a merely 12years or so ago the blue bulls had the same scenario and look where they are today, nobody even remembers the slump they went through because at that stage they also had no supporters.Go LIONS!!!

I don't think we at the Force would take Rose even if you threw him in for free! Anyway, we've already got our two-for-one deal worked out- sign an ace flyhalf and keep James O'Connor- I doubt the Lions can top that!

every year there is talk about him leaving to go and play for some other team and yet he has staid loyal to the union that has stood by him every time he got injured. Let hope that loyalty is still strong, other wise we will be stuk with "Pearl" Rose.

I am sad at the loss of Andre as quite correctly he has been a loyal servant to GLRU. I also think without the injury problems he would have shown his true tallent and risen to far greater heights. My concern is with what is happening to the GLRU. I am sure if you opened a forum to discuss the GLRU all 12 of us remaining supporters would all agree. Too little too late for GLRU. No players, no rugby, no spectators, no money, no coach, no management, no GLRU!!! Wait..........maybe a 5 year plan coming!!!

Amazed by some of the harsh comments on here....I have always been a fan of Andre and I always will be. He has been ultra loyal and quite frankly going abroad isn't even being disloyal. Rugby is not only a game, it is these guys livelyhood. To the ones with their nasty comments especially katman - grow up and take the blinkers off. Believe it or not but it is not all about you, and your little word. Rugby and the Lions including Andre does not exist to play for you and you only!!!!!!! I wish you well Andre on your journey.

What about a GLRU counter offer. Two for the price of one. You pay for Pitoorsie and we through in Pearly Rosebud as well. It is a win win or what do you say?

Good Ridance, I will even pack his bags, for him!!!! Let's see if I can't stuff Earl Rose into one of those bags too!

Jip never thought it would be that bad, but it is. They are going down slowly. I agree give ER away!

Sign of the inevitable for a badly managed and coached union. How did they expect quality to stay when there was no quality management or quality coach. Empty seats due to pathetic rugby means no money to pay players. They will most definitely not be earning anything out of me for the distant future and at least all of those leaving in management will leave a long lasting legacy - the dimise of a once great and proud rugby union!! Perhaps we should ask the Pumas or Leopards if we can join up with them and then would be able to field 15 players. Lions will NOT survive relegation this year and the few remaining players will then also leave if the GLRU still exsits. I cannot believe that the blind management did not see this freight train coming as everybody else did? Shows the quaility!

Go for it !! rugby is a dying sport in this country. To pay R1140 to watch the boks play in Durban is sommer a moerse rip off ! No wonder our players are leaving. good luck to them all

Go for it !! , you arent getting any younger - make some money or end up bankrupt like Dalton........

It seems as if there's an exodus of players from the Gauteng Lions union. This cannot be good for you die-hard supporters. To lose Jaqcue Fourie and Pretoruis is a big blow, and Ludik is also out for 6 months. That's three quality players. Maybe you should try and get rid of ER as well. This year's CC might just be very long for you. Maybe you should get Heyneke Meyer in, and get rid of management. I believe you still have good players, but you are going to need a miracle to turn this thing around.
Wikus6/11/2009 9:24 AM
Best news ever! We should tell them that they can get Earl Rose as well! And we'll pay them!
johan6/11/2009 9:05 AM
good for you andre, go and make some real money with people who know how to treat tallent
katman6/11/2009 9:03 AM
And so the rats leave the sinking ship. Where does the GLRU hope to find the cash to buy suitable talent once this current exodus is done?
