Poite shifted to Eastern Europe

Cape Town - French referee Romain Poite's below-par performance in a recent Springbok-All Blacks Test has cost him participation in any upcoming high-profile Test matches.

Poite came under fire for a series of blunders in the All Blacks' controversial Rugby Championship victory over the Springboks at Eden Park in Auckland on September 14.

Much to the ire of Springbok fans, Poite showed hooker Bismarck du Plessis a yellow card in the 16th minute of the Test for a perfectly legal tackle on All Black flyhalf Dan Carter.

Poite then showed Du Plessis a second yellow - and a subsequent red card - for leading with an elbow which connected with the throat flank Liam Messam.

The Boks fought manfully for close on 50 minutes with only 14 players at their disposal, eventually going down 29-15.

The Interrnational Rugby Board (IRB) afterwards released a statement saying Poite was wrong in his decision to give Du Plessis his first yellow card.

And the Frenchman's poor showing now seems to have cost him.

According to the IRB website, Poite will not be in charge of any high-profile games for the November Test period.

The only game awarded to the Frenchman is a Test between Georgia and Samoa in Tbilisi in Eastern Europe on November 23, where he will aim to get back in the IRB's good books.
