Odds cut on Gold joining Sharks

Cape Town - Gary Gold appears the most likely candidate to replace Jake White as the Sharks' Director of Rugby - if bookmakers are to be believed.

White left the Sharks in mysterious circumstances last month, and looks set to be replaced by Gold, 47, who, among other roles to date, has been the forwards coach at WP and a Springbok assistant coach under Peter de Villiers.

Leading SA bookies sportingbet have slashed the odds on Gold taking over in Durban from 5/1 to 13/8.

Brendan Venter is next best at 2/1, followed by John Mitchell (13/5) and Nick Mallett (7/1).

No word at present as to when the appointment of White's successor will be made.
