Luke to be a dad, talks rugby

Marlene Malan

Cape Town – Former Western Province captain and Springbok loose forward Luke Watson is going to become a father.

It is the second bit of good news this month for Watson, who was recently named captain of Bath rugby club in England.

Watson (26) married Elaine Locke (27) in Cape Town just over a year ago. They met at Hillsong church in Cape Town. Elaine has her own company that organises big events.

They moved to England in November after Watson signed a three-year contract with Bath.

Watson’s proud mom, Tracey, confirmed the news. “I’m going to become a grandmother! We are all very excited. Luke and Elaine are delighted. We can’t wait for the baby!”

The baby is expected in April next year.

However, Watson is not talking about baby matters on his Facebook profile and is keeping his fans informed about his rugby career. He proudly announced that his team had beaten Ulster 26-14 on Friday.

While fans are pleading with him to return to South Africa and “rescue” the Springboks, Watson says: Divvy has the players and resources to have a winning side at next year’s World Cup.

“It takes time to find the right combinations and game plan. The 2007 plan that won us the World Cup won’t work! We have to adapt and play a more attacking style of rugby.

“Some of the experience in the team has to be retained, but it’s time to bring in some young guns who are firing.”
