Broken leg rules out Jantjes

Cape Town - A broken leg has ruled Springbok fullback Conrad Jantjes out of a three-match Test series against the British and Irish Lions starting on June 20.

Stormers star Jantjes was carried off 10 minutes into the  Super 14 match against the Chiefs late on Saturday after colliding with flanker Liam Messam.

Stormers coach Rassie Erasmus confirmed on Sunday that the injury was serious and the fullback would miss Tests against the Lions in Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Jantjes, 29, made his Springbok debut against Italy eight years ago and the versatile star has been chosen at fullback and on the wing during a 24-cap international career.

Flanker Schalk Burger also retired during the first half against the Chiefs at Newlands and will have a calf injury scanned on Monday as problems mount for Bok coach Pieter de Villiers.

Centres Jean de Villiers and Adi Jacobs did not play in the Super 14 at the weekend because of injury as South Africa prepares to host a 10-match Lions tour.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
