Lions name squad for Sevens

Johannesburg - The Lions have announced a 12-man squad for the NBM Sevens tournament in George this weekend.

Coach JP Ferreira said on Wednesday the squad had a good blend of youth and experience and he believed the tournament would be beneficial for all involved.

"There are some youngsters in the side that have not yet played on the big stage and I believe it will be a great opportunity for them to prove to themselves, and Golden Lions head coach Johan Ackermann, that they are ready to take the step up to senior rugby," Ferreira said.

"The majority of the players are in the current senior training squad that is preparing for the Lions Challenge games in 2013 and it is a wonderful opportunity for them to compete as part of their pre-season preparations."

Lions squad: Andries Coetzee, Robbie Coetzee, Ruan Combrinck, Ross Cronje, Stokkies Hanekom, Morne Laubscher, Gideon Meiring, Westley Moolman, Jacques Nel, Ruhan Nel, Senzo Shabalala, Claude Tshibidi.
