Lawrence's Test career over

2012-07-25 09:07

Cape Town - SANZAR head of referees Lyndon Bray confirmed on Wednesday that New Zealand referee Bryce Lawrence’s Test career is over, according to EWN Sport.

Lawrence, who was unbelievably named New Zealand’s referee of the year in 2011, has been in freefall since taking charge of the Rugby World Cup quarter-final between the Springboks and Wallabies, a game where he allowed the Wallabies the freedom of the park as they won despite having little possession.

Lawrence was widely criticised for his handling of the game, which bundled the Springboks out of the World Cup and was subsequently not given any Six Nations games at the beginning of 2012, with Sanzar refereeing boss Lyndon Bray admitting he needed to be “rehabilitated” following the performance.

Cant say I am too upset about this! In fact my day has brightened considerably!

      cape.maori - 2012-07-25 09:23

hahahhahahaha - what does the score board say? The bokkies / proteas were kicked out of the world cup! I can still see Bryce Lawrence pulling an Aussie player down in the line out! hahahahahahhaha

Such a pity we have to deal with South Africans such as cape.maori......

      nzbro.allblack - 2012-07-25 09:33

Im not sure if this story is accurate. There is NO news at all about BL or Lyndon Bray on the local news here in nz & I checked as far back as 2011. It could be just a wish list story by N24 on a slow news day.

      burtfred.brown - 2012-07-26 07:04

Lawrence was awarded NZ "ref of the year". The head of the selection panel was his dad. True story! The Allblacks World Cup "win" will forever be tainted by the inept crooked reffing of Lawrence. They will never know for sure if they were the true champions of that tournament.

      jack.reacher.5621 - 2012-07-26 09:36

@Cape.Maori At least South Africa are able to win a RWC at home and away. Seems that NZ can only win a RWC on home ground - quite embarrising really.

Internet Memo to Cape Moron and his sidekick NZBrommer ... With the death of Bryce Lawrence's international test career, all chances of the All Black's winning another WC in the next 24yr has also suffered a horrible death. The time and money and effort to clone Bryce from one of their many sheep will now have to be re-invested ... Thus the "mighty" All Black sheep shagging supporters will be frustrated for many more WCups ... End of Memo!!

This is as much an an admission by Zanzar that Lawrence cheated. He will be remembered as a blatant cheat in a position of trust. It's his legacy....except in New Zae Land. An all time low for a proud rugby nation when they awarded him as "Referee of the year" Sies man!

      cape.maori - 2012-07-25 09:36

Please explain to me how the proteas would have won the All Blacks in the semi on Eden Park taking into account their woeful performances in New Zealand! The All Black B team almost klapped the proteas in PE, made about 20 line breaks in PE, had a try disallowed because the SA TMO exceeded his powers, proteas lost to the Aussies a week earlier! Come now boys and girls, don't blame BL, blame your protea players who cannot win with 70% possession. Do not treat winning as your birth right - we know who the leading rugby nation is.

      ruhan.vandermerwe - 2012-07-25 09:46

I though the proteas play cricket maybe thats why they lost to the all blacks in PE, cape maori making sense, but sinse it was the rugby world cup, the SPRINGBOKS would have won the all blacks easy

      johan.fourie.566 - 2012-07-25 09:50

Simple Ape maori, Hashim amlah, king kallas and AB devilliers will just knock them out of the park and Dale Steyn, morne Morkeland Vernon philander will bole them intheir chops but the proteas don't play the All Blacks and the SPRINGBOKS will run right over them with a fair reff ofcores

      marnusmnorval - 2012-07-25 10:07

Maybe he started blowing crap after the south africans threw a hissy fit because they didnt know who else to blame. and still now you cry... Tissue?

      james.eayrs - 2012-07-25 12:50

@ cape.maori - No explanation required. Can't help if you miss the obvious and there's no medicine for that either.

      Paul - 2012-07-25 15:45

@ Cape Maori. You are a moron. As I've told you before, you do not 'win' a team, because that implies that you are allowed to keep them after the contest; you BEAT a team. Secondly, how can you counter our argument over bad reffing, with one of your very own? You say we are wrong to blame Bryce Lawrence, A New Zealander, who assisted the All Blacks by giving them weaker opposition, yet in the same breath you complain that you would have beaten us in PE if it weren't for the TMO!! and losing 18-5 is NOT 'almost klapping', unless you are the team that scored the 18! Then I ask you to look back to the 2007 World Cup semi final, where your beloved All Blacks lost, with 66% possession, because on ONE missed forward pass! Boy, you guys have never forgotten that. But Bryce Lawrence, who, according to unbiased international press (ask someone to teach you to find it) made 47 mistakes in one game. That was of course after apologising to Australia for cocking up their game against Ireland, thereby 'arranging' for us to meet Australia in the quarter final. And after the game, the IRB started working him out, because of the likes of people like us who just would not let it go. Tell you anything? So Cape Maori, please do us a favour anf f*** off to the land of the long' previously-advantage' cloud and leave us alone!!

      cape.maori - 2012-07-25 16:42

      @Paul - you are a funny girl!!

      gungets.tuft - 2012-07-25 17:14

Cape Maori - funny you should talk about birth right. Do you have one. Where were you born? Why do you set yourself such low standards

      bradley.sharp.524 - 2012-07-25 21:15

Cape Maori just goes to show how little you know about your sport the NZ Cricket team is the Black Caps not the all blacks, and the South African rugby team is the Springboks not Proteas.

      Caleb - 2012-07-26 04:09

For God sakes Paul, there is no conspiracy, stop what your smoking man, it was a bad reffing day by Bryce Lawrence, no-one is disputing that, but to say he cheated for the Ab's is as absurd as your rant. If you had any knowledge about rugby then you would know so.

Bryce is a perfect case study for aspiring referees - How NOT to apply any IRB rules in 80 minutes and still be crowned as NZ No1 ref

      om.nom.nom.01 - 2012-07-25 16:24

That's strange, seems mar(a)nus is lost for words (or is that sarcasm) on this comment. What's wrong Podgy? Gone for a putt-putt break? Again?

  • hendrik.schutte.3152 - 2012-07-25 10:48

If this news item is true and correct it HAS to rate right up there with the Cricket win as "the best news of the week". Here's hoping it is not a myth.

quote of the week goes to marnus

  • charl.koegelenberg - 2012-07-25 11:05

Sa have only themselfs to blame for the the lost. What happend to there boring drop goal rugby that thay always play. If you have 70% position of the ball I'm sure thay could have gotten a few drops over. And even if thay have won the game there was no way thay would have beaten the All Blacks

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-25 11:11

*themselves *the loss *their *they *possession *they *they *had

      jimmy.pop.142 - 2012-07-25 11:12

      learn to spell you douche

      marnusmnorval - 2012-07-25 11:21

Best of all news24 gives you a chance to correct you horrible spelling.

      gawie.krotz - 2012-07-25 12:10

Have to agree with you charl...if only we could have played more rugby and stop kicking our ball away..I believe in faith and I believe that if the Boks have beaten the wallabies they would have lost to NZ in the semi-finals,everything happens for a reason..let's learn to forget and live with it just like NZ did a few years back when they got beaten by France.

      om.nom.nom.01 - 2012-07-25 16:39

mar(a)nus... best you use "your" chance then, nê?

      theunis.botha.96 - 2012-07-25 17:52

Dit was Morne Steyn wat gespeel het onthou, nie Jannie De Beer.

      Caleb - 2012-07-26 04:19

Finally some sense Charl, this is rare on this forum. No-one was disputing SA was hard done by, but the best teams still should win by playing the right rugby. This was the case when we lost to France and the 'forward pass' incident. Back then the Ab's should not have let France get that close, so we only have ourselves to blame. Im afraid your sentiments are not shared by most on here, but you are spot on and obviously have a true understanding of how rugby works.

  • mlucejko - 2012-07-25 11:06

ekt n vraag. . kan daar nie plan gmak word om\r\nmense soos cape.maori en marnusmnorval van\r\ndie website af t kry nie. . .hulle is duidelik nog nie\r\nvolwasse genoeg om deel te wees van n publieke\r\nforum nie

      cape.maori - 2012-07-25 11:27

Why? Is that because we do not agree with the "baas" mentality? hahahaha- vat so, jou d....

      marnusmnorval - 2012-07-25 11:27

Ag nee man hoekom post jy op 2 plekke? "En om kwaad teraak oor n game wat n jaar terug gebeur het is so mature? Om tese die ou moet SA toe kom dat hy "reg gesien" kan word is so mature? Double standards baby doll. En jy't die vraag teken vergeet. "

      marnusmnorval - 2012-07-25 11:53

Ai elandre ekt so gehoop jy sal reply.

  • denny.cray - 2012-07-25 11:25

Ah well, enjoy the schadenfreude SA. I said at the time that his performance would cost him a lot more than it would cost the average SA supporter. Our team lost a game, he screwed up his career. The right result in the end but no cause for celebration as I see it. We still lost. Hopefully his replacement will be better.

  • leonard.riggien - 2012-07-25 11:29

Knowing the IRB He will probably become the next Head of Referees ; Following after the great Paddy "no Brain."

  • louis.nel.7927 - 2012-07-25 11:38

    Thank You for leaving Bryce

      press.enter.12 - 2012-07-25 13:54

Has the evil axis of Paddy O'Brien/Bryce Lawrence finaly tilted ?

  • Boy - 2012-07-25 11:47

Now get him out of Superrugby too please

  • markiemark101 - 2012-07-25 11:48

At last I can enjoy rugby again and not worry about the referee changing the outcome of the game. This is probably the highlight of my year so far. Cheers Bryce, go join the politicians now, it where you belong.

      marnusmnorval - 2012-07-25 11:51

I guess you didnt watch most of the super rugby games

  • mahlangu.bobo - 2012-07-25 11:50

  • andrew.niedermeyer.1 - 2012-07-25 11:56

So are NZ going to give the cup up................ no didn't think so. He got paid and help by the IRB..... new Zealand ref of the year last year............................... and they dropped him so quickly what an embarrassment to world rugby............ the whole of the IRB SHOULD GO...........

  • edwardsch - 2012-07-25 11:56

GOOD RIDDANCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go ref school boy rugby and hope they don't give you a smack on the head for your inept performances !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • roy.wadhams.1 - 2012-07-25 11:59

That is not the only rehabilitation he needs. Because of what he did causing us to lose against the Aussies, something that Lyndon Bray is now aware of,he should be made to apologize in all the newspapers in Australia,New Zealand & South Africa and then be banished from all involvement in Rugby.

  • andrew.niedermeyer.1 - 2012-07-25 12:04

Really why ????????????????? wasn't he New Zealand ref of the year last year................hahahahah, this cost South Africa in the world cup.

      marnusmnorval - 2012-07-25 12:06

      hahahahahah.. you crack me up..

      cape.maori - 2012-07-25 12:14

LOL - the bokkies cost SA a semi against the mighty AB on Eden Park! Did Bryce Lawrence pull an Aussie player down? Did BL run from his own goal line aka Skalk Burger? Did BL injure the overrrated Prussouw? Move on boys and girls, the bokkies were lucky against Wales and Manu Samoa and were showed up against the Aussies. How many of you remember the Aussies klapping the bokkies / proteas in Durban prior to the world cup? Thought so, the proteas record against the Aussies in the last 6 games is pathetic.

      edwardsch - 2012-07-25 13:00

@cape.maori - When do you leave for your new life in NZ? They are welcome to you and your lack of patriotism. It is time that you got over yourself and grew a spine. L O S E R ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

      press.enter.12 - 2012-07-25 12:51

Sorry again for the loss of your spiritual leader man . . . .

  • ajcvdw - 2012-07-25 12:14

Amazing. The guy screws the defending world champs and gets awarded NZ referee of the year. He screws the Crusaders and gets axed from test rugby. Not Super 15 rugby, TEST rugby! How clear is it that they practice double standards against anything New Zealand / Crusaders / Richie McCaw?

      cape.maori - 2012-07-25 12:20

The moral of the story, don't screw real champions!

      press.enter.12 - 2012-07-25 12:50
