Sydney - Former Wallaby flyhalf Stephen Larkham has been appointed as the attack coach of Australian Super 15 rugby team the Brumbies as part of an overhaul of its coaching staff for the 2011 season, officials said on Wednesday.

The 96-cap Larkham will return to Canberra after completing his third season with Japanese club the Ricoh Black Rams.

Larkham, 36, played 116 Super Rugby matches for the Brumbies between 1996 and 2007 and featured in their 2001 and 2004 Super 12 championship sides.

Larkham joins former Wallaby lock Justin Harrison and hooker Marco Caputo as part of the Brumbies' revamped coaching staff.

Harrison, who completed his 96-cap Super Rugby career with the Brumbies this year, will stay on as the club’s forwards coach, while Caputo, who played five Tests for the Wallabies between 1996 and 1999, will take over from Bill Young as the scrum coach, officials said.

The trio, who are each contracted for two years, will join head coach Andy Friend and defence coach Tony Rea on the Brumbies' coaching staff.

"It's an exciting prospect to have these three join the coaching staff and bring a new approach and fresh ideas to the table," Friend said.

"Each of them has experience playing at the highest level and they were considered among the best in their respective positions throughout their careers."
