Lamont calls Obama a 'whore'

2012-01-14 15:19

Glasgow - A Scottish rugby player has been warned about his "completely inappropriate" language after calling US President Barack Obama a "whore" on Twitter.

When praising Ron Paul, a candidate to be the Republican Party's nominee for the 2012 presidential election, Rory Lamont said on January 4: "He doesn't work for Wall Street like that whore Obama."

As well as Obama, the 29-year-old Lamont has taken to the social networking site to made derogatory remarks about a number of politicians including British Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The injury-plagued wing, who in 26 Tests for Scotland has scored six tries and represented his country at last year's Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, took to Twitter on Friday to apologise for his remarks.

"If I have ever caused any offence from the language used in my tweets, I do apologise," Lamont said.

Lamont, in Scotland's squad for next month's Six Nations Championship, rejoined Glasgow after the World Cup from French club Toulon, having previously played for English Premiership side Sale.

In a joint statement issued with Glasgow, the Scottish Rugby Union's communications director Dominic McKay said: "Social media provides a platform for our players to engage with fans and act as ambassadors for our team and the sport in general.

"We do make players aware of how best to use social media, such as Twitter, so they can make the most of the service.

"We have spoken to Rory about the Tweets identified and he fully accepts the language used was completely inappropriate and has apologised unreservedly for offence caused.

"Rory is concentrating on this weekend's important Heineken (European) Cup match between Glasgow Warriors and Leinster."

I agree with him on Ron Paul Though! Go Ron Paul!

      James - 2012-01-14 16:34

Ron Paul is a true Patriot, problem, too many Fed workers, minorities {12% of population 50% of workers at Freddie and Fannie}, Unions, stupid Americans that are salavating over handouts to get RP elected. Her would dump Israel, result the Jews hate him too.

      Barry - 2012-01-14 20:28

Any American President is a whore to his/her people every four years.

  • Bert - 2012-01-14 16:00

Whore! That's great from a nation of men who wear skirts with no knickers, Och Aye Th' Noo Jock!

  • goyougoodthing - 2012-01-14 16:02

In the context of money whore I think he is exactly right. Obama could never fulfill his election promises as he was already in the pockets of big business. They guy is from Illinois, the most corrupt state in the USA, he's hardly an angel.

  • cosmos.ndebele - 2012-01-14 16:10

Is he American? Whats his interest in US Politics? Brainless twat!

      colin85 - 2012-01-16 11:02

What happens in the US affects the world. It is still the world's largest economy and think about for example the internet. THEY can take your freedoms with their laws. Think about world wars, think about Financial Crises when one of their large banks failed, which hit a place like 'Scotland' quite hard - So to borrow your line, maybe YOU are indeed the 'Brainless twat' and Lamont is a bit more of a thinking man?

      Staal - 2012-01-16 15:28

@Cosmos - Don't kid yourself. If the US president farts your kitchen table flowers wilt. Same for any huge world power, as a few others already are or are soon to become. South Africa is a forlorn little cork bobbing in a great ocean over which we have little control.

  • Chaapo - 2012-01-14 16:23

Must have suffered traumatic head injuries and so he is permanently unable to think. In any case before this, I wouldn't have differentiated him from log. Methinks, he is desperately trying for attention.

      colin85 - 2012-01-16 11:05

Man, people like you are such sheeple. The right to an opinion does not make him unable to think, if anything it's the opposite and the mere fact that he actually seems to be 'spot on' really makes your comment and others like it look like the ignorant, walking the earth happy to have your lives run by elected officials who are in-fact elected to look after your best interests! Maybe you should wake up and expand your horizons a bit!

      Staal - 2012-01-16 15:29

@Chaapo, but I guess if he said the same about old Bushy you would be cheering him on? Sheeple indeed.

  • Seja - 2012-01-14 16:39

... hmm ya neh?? very rich of him to criticise Obama and call him a Wall Street whore and then very quickly back down when his employers in the Rugby Union tell him to. Does that not make him exactly the same as the people he is criticising?? ...me thinks this dude is also firmly in the pocket of big business so he must just shut up and sit down!!

      colin85 - 2012-01-16 11:08

Seja, While your point is valid, you miss an important point. He is a rugby player, and they have rules NOT to cause controversy on social media, if you read his retweet, he doesn't say that he is sorry for his views, but rather, sorry for breaking team protocol. Obama, or any serving politician on the other hand, have a JOB to serve the people that elected them, NOT special interest groups. So nice try, but you missed the mark

  • Neville - 2012-01-14 17:17

Racist in the highest order they must remove him from playing Scotland or any form of sport , he is an excuse to be call a person , he hate black people , he was force to apologise no meaning.

      Scott - 2012-01-14 17:35

Shut up, he said nothing racist. He disagrees with Obamas policies that does'nt make him a racist, but how quick are you to label someone a rascist because they have have a different opnion from yours. The term racists has become a political tool to discredit people. The word has lost it's meaning...

      Warwick - 2012-01-14 18:14

Why whenver a whtie person makes a comment he is racist. Watch out for Jimmy Manyi and his comment of an oversuply of a certian group in the Cape.

      Rory Litchfield - 2012-01-15 08:12

      What part of.his.comment was racist?

      Deon - 2012-01-16 09:43

Saying something bad of a black man is not always racist. This sounds like ANC logic.

      colin85 - 2012-01-16 11:12

Wow Neville, Please don't breed... Sometimes you should open up to the possibilities that maybe some people actually look at things like track records, and results and broken promises and lies. For people who can just bring it to race all the time must have such an easy life. If someone says anything smart, you discount it because he is saying it to someone of a different ethnicity. Simples :P Yay to living with blinkers on in the world of the slow and simple!

      Staal - 2012-01-16 15:32

*lol* Racist - that is right people - criticize a non-white at your peril. They are the most protected species on the planet. So Neville, are people racist if they are black and criticize David Cameron or even our own Helen Zille? I guess you are calling our entire government racist.

  • Lukas Oelofse - 2012-01-14 17:58

So what? He's right. And it's not a race thing either.

  • sduplessis - 2012-01-14 20:23

    Malema much?

  • Gavin - 2012-01-14 21:33

What ever happened to freedom of speech, even if no one agrees with him, I feel he has the right to say what is on his mind, and not be shot down in flames for viewing his opinion, rather be true and unliked, thann false and liked.

      Shamoenay Theys - 2012-01-14 22:46

Its funny how white ppl act like champions of democracy wen not so log ago they banned free speech in this country #beyondironic

      Igenatius - 2012-01-16 08:56

Shamoenay, I think it's funnier that freedom of speech is dissipating right now, and you fail to see/mention that. Oh how things have changed.. Oh wait.... The race thing, it's very old already.

  • Boer - 2012-01-14 22:07

Please use your brains and also remember that Barack Obama inherrited a huge problem to deal with so give credit also dont just always brake people down.

  • Deon - 2012-01-16 09:44

    Rather stick to Rugby.

  • jroterberg - 2012-02-28 22:43

Hold on! Is he not out for 4 months because of a broken leg after a sissy performance against France? Look where his foul mouth got him, there is still justice after all!!!
