2012-03-15 07:16

Cape Town - Former Springbok captain Corné Krige is set to enter the boxing ring with former All Black flyhalf Carlos Spencer.

According to a SuperSport report, Krige will take on Spencer, current backline coach of the Lions, in a “friendly fight” in May this year.

The fight is one of several to take place in a box-and-dine tournament at the Sandton Convention Centre.

In the main fight, Nkullueko Mhlongo will defend his South African junior middleweight title against Bongani Mwelase.

Heavyweights Ruben Groenewald and Elviso Moyo are also expected to be in action.

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-15 08:32

Hy lyk al klaar soos Rocky, nadat hy gehammer is deur Apollo Creed. Adrian! Adriaaaan!

      Sean - 2012-03-15 09:22

I reckon Krige will pound Spencer

      Japjapjap - 2012-03-15 09:56

Hoor dit gan uitgesaai word tussen "the young and the restless" en "the bold and the ugly"- al die sepies op die selfde tyd. ..as hulle nou net regte manne daar kon inkry soos Bakkies, hulk, chuck, ens. dit sou nou di moeite werd gewees het!

      xabanisas - 2012-03-15 11:39

What, Andre Pretorius wasn't available for round two of that infamous knockout at Twickenham in 2002 (the 53-3 Test where Straeuli said: "We didn't concuss ourselves")

  • John - 2012-03-15 08:03

Nice guy but gee he probably captained the worst Bok team ever....

      Gordon - 2012-03-15 08:42

As the title of his book says - right place wrong time.

      Jason - 2012-03-15 08:44

i havent read it, is it a good read Gordon?

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-15 08:52

It is a good read, Jason. Just a lot of spelling/grammar issues.

      Chris - 2012-03-15 09:44

Without question, the worst Bok captain of all time - who'll ever forget the disgrace of the 53-3 thrashing by England at Twickenham on November 2002. Not a bad player, bit a shocking captain.

      BJ - 2012-03-15 09:55

I don't think he was a "nice guy". More like a complete prick. Dirtiest ever player to don the Springbok jersey.

      Lion - 2012-03-15 10:26

@John... Worst Provincial team ever as well!!!

      Rohann Olivier - 2012-03-15 12:24

Didn't he win a Curry Cup with the \worst privincial team ever\? O'yeah sorry I forgot that is what bad captains do they win Currie Cups. Fortunatly the WP never held the record for worst Super rugby performance. I can think of 2 SA franchises.

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-15 12:35

Rohann, the Bulls have 2 records. A good one and a bad one. Hoeveel het die Stormers? Net n nommer asb. Nie 'dit of dat' en 'mmm en aaa' nie. Net n nommer.

      Rohann Olivier - 2012-03-15 12:51

The WP has a good record and a bad RUN not a bad RECORD. En as my research my nie in die steek laat nie het die WP 32 currie cups en die bulls 23. No ooo's and aaa's Bulldozer.

      Rohann Olivier - 2012-03-15 12:55

The WP has a good record and a bad RUN not the RECORD for the worst performance ever. En as my research my nie in die steek laat nie het die WP 32 currie cups en die bulls 23. No ooo's and aaa's Bulldozer.

      Rohann Olivier - 2012-03-15 12:59

Soos bulldozer gesê het, \no ooo's and aaa's blueraven.

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-15 13:01

''Fortunatly the WP never held the record for worst Super rugby performance. I can think of 2 SA franchises''. Eers praat jy van Super rugby en franchises en dan skielik begin jy Currie cup praat as jy my nie oordentelik kan antwoord nie. Mmm's en aaa's sou dalk beter gewees het.

      Rohann Olivier - 2012-03-15 13:04

Ek vra onverskoning, moenie my gooi met 'n energade bottel nie asb.

      Bulldozer - 2012-03-15 13:12

Wellington bottels is meer my ding.

      Phillip Nel - 2012-03-15 13:17

Rohann, dit was my oom wat daai bottel gegooi het, maar hy is maar 'n ou kommin blixem

      Altus Hugo De Klerk - 2012-03-15 13:54

@Rohann, the Bulls fans must be jeaulous that even with a crap team - yes, we know they are underperforming chokers, we are not naïve like you - we still provide the best supported venue in Super Rugby (only doing battle with the Sharks for this honour).\r\n\r\nEk dink dalk dat Dozer en Raven nagskof werk by hul naaste vulstasie en deur die dag by hul mamma(s) se huis(e) sit en het niks beter te doen as om op elke rugby berig kommentaar te lewer nie... Dit is wel hul reg. Die bonus is dat ek lekker kan lag vir hul tonnelvisie. Sit neer daai Wellington bottel en groei 'n paar brein selle

  • Schalk - 2012-03-15 08:05

Queen Carlos does not stand a chance! Just have Hendrik Gerber sitting next to the ring...

      Bames - 2012-03-15 09:41

Agree, Richard Bands also comes to mind.

  • Henri - 2012-03-15 08:05

Ha ha ha ha, Krige is going to kill the poor bloke !!!!

      Louis - 2012-03-15 08:50

Asseblief!!! Weet jy ooit wie is Carlos, daai man is massive, arme Corne

      Deon - 2012-03-16 13:05

to zoolie, schalk and all others writing off spencer...................why dont you wait and see. Boxing is not club brawling ala Coenie Cheetah Oosthuisen' and i think carlos has been around the block or two in NZ and UK in his day, so lets see..............UUMMM!!!

  • renejupp - 2012-03-15 08:14

    Krige for the KO!

  • David - 2012-03-15 08:27

    both great guys!

  • Morne' - 2012-03-15 08:39

As a result of a car accident that happened years ago, Krige has a middle finger that does not bend, I hope he does not hurt himself with the first punch he throws.

  • Shaun - 2012-03-15 08:46

Loose forward known back in his prime as one of the hard-men of rugby against a flyhalf whose biggest flaw was that he hated making contact and never tackled. Hands down Krige's fight.

  • Bruce - 2012-03-15 08:54

Spencer not half bad in the ring. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OW0yLr2GsJM

      Bluey - 2012-03-15 09:03

Well said Bruce, that video was against Guetanbeal (spelling?) a rugby league forward. It was a charity match for cancer from memory "Fight for Life". Liam Messam fought Wendal Sailor as well. Basically the league v union for charity. Is this fight for charity?

  • marnusmnorval - 2012-03-15 09:26

    GO CARLOS

  • Danny - 2012-03-15 09:40

You got to be kidding me !

      Bluey - 2012-03-15 09:49

It's no joke Danny, in fact we laugh at you most of the time if not all

  • Nico - 2012-03-15 15:22

Corne Krige....legend of WP and SA rugby!! Kliphard!! My money is on him to beat Carlos Spencer!!
