Johannesburg - South African Rugby Union (SARU) president Oregan Hoskins will continue to stand as the nation's rugby boss if he is voted in as vice-chairman of the International Rugby Board.

Moving to quell speculation, SARU said on Monday that Hoskins would not have to step down as the head of the federation if he was elected for the IRB post next month.
According to IRB rules, SARU said, the vice-chairman of the international governing body was not independent and could continue to represent his union.
"Should Hoskins be elected as IRB vice-chairman, he will continue to serve as the president of SARU," it said in a statement.
