Tokyo - Former Wallabies captain and scrumhalf George Gregan will finally call time on his storied career, announcing that this season will be his last of professional rugby.
According to the
allblacks.com website, Gregan is currently playing for Suntory Sungoliath in Japan alongside his former Brumbies and Australian coach Eddie Jones, and has spent the last two years with the club.
Many thought that Gregan would retire after a season with Toulon, but Jones managed to squeeze out a few more years from the scrumhalf.
"Eddie called me in Toulon where I spent a year after the World Cup and asked if it was possible," he said to the Daily Yomiuri.
"My initial reaction was that I had no games left in me, but he told me they were looking at a time frame of three years. I had been here a few times before and have always enjoyed coming here.
Now 37 years of age, Gregan is the most capped player in the history of Test rugby, having compiled a mammoth 139 Test caps in his Wallaby career, a record that some feel will never be surpassed.
Gregan won the Rugby World Cup, Tri-Nations, Bledisloe Cup and a Super Rugby title, and is now setting his sights on helping Suntory to collect the Japanese Top League title and the All-Japan championship.
