Paris - France scrumhalf Julien Dupuy has decided to appeal against his 24-week ban for eye-gouging Ulster flanker Stephen Ferris which would rule him out of the Six Nations championship.

The Stade Francais player received the suspension on Friday arising out of an incident during the his team's 23-13 loss in a European Cup match at Ravenhill December 12.

Stade president Max Guazzini described the punishment as "excessive, very political and anti-French" and on Monday launched an appeal.

No date has yet been set for the hearing.

The Six Nations championships is February 6 - March 20 and the ban would last until June 3.
