Cape Town - Western Province flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis will join the Southern Kings at the conclusion of this year's Currie Cup.

Catrakilis, who starts at No 10 for WP against Griquas on Saturday, will relish the chance to join the men from Port Elizabeth - who on Thursday were guaranteed a spot in next year's Super Rugby competition.

SARU announced that the Kings will play in the Southern Hemisphere's premier competition, with the Lions dropping out for at least one year. The bottom team in 2013's competition will then play in a two-legged promotion and relegation series against the Lions.

According to iafrica.com, Catrakilis will join the Eastern Province union in November on a two-year deal.

“I’m very excited to start my journey at the Kings,” he said, adding that he is excited to get an opportunity to finally play Super Rugby.

“Yes, very much so! I’ve been waiting for this opportunity [Super Rugby] for a while.”

He has struggled to crack the nod at Super Rugby level in Cape Town, with Peter Grant, Gary van Aswegen and Burton Francis ahead of him in the pecking order.

Catrakilis, 23, first shot to prominence playing for the University of Cape Town in last year's Varsity Cup.
