Van der Walt at flyhalf for Lions

Cape Town - Golden Lions coach Johan Ackermann has named his team for Friday’s Currie Cup clash against Western Province in Johannesburg.

Ackermann has made a few changes from the team that lost 31-17 to the Blue Bulls in Pretoria last weekend.

Tighthead prop Ruan Dreyer makes a welcome return to the playing field after a lengthy lay-off due to injury, while a new face, JP du Preez, will pack down at lock with Lourens Erasmus.

Ruan Ackermann moves to No 7 and Fabian Booysen comes in at No 8.

In the backline, Jaco van der Walt takes the No 10 jersey from Marnitz Boshoff, who drops out of the match-day squad.

Rohan Janse van Rensburg moves to inside centre and Jacques Nell will partner him in midfield, while Selom Gavor replaces the injured Courtnall Skosan at right wing.

Andries Ferreira returns from injury and will warm the bench as lock reserve.

Kick-off for Friday’s clash at Ellis Park is scheduled for 19:00.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
