Torsten to visit Redelinghuys in hospital

Cape Town - Free State Cheetahs hooker Torsten van Jaarsveld plans to visit Golden Lions prop Julian Redelinghuys in hospital.

Redelinghuys broke his neck after being tackled by Van Jaarsveld in Saturday’s Currie Cup semi-final in Bloemfontein - a game the Cheetahs won 55-17.

Van Jaarsveld feels bad about the incident and says it was never his intention to hurt Redelinghuys in what was a legitimate tackle.

“It’s never nice to see a fellow player leave the field on a stretcher. I will definitely pay Julian a visit in hospital,” the Cheetahs hooker told Netwerk24.

Redelinghuys sustained a dislocation of his neck at C5/6 level and underwent a successful operation in a Bloemfontein hospital on Sunday.

Golden Lions team doctor, Rob Collins, confirmed that Redelinghuys would in all probability be allowed to go home later in the week.

"Julian's operation went well on Sunday morning. He had a fusion at C5/6 level. If all goes well, he should be able to return home later this week," said Collins.

Whether Redelinghuys makes a return to rugby remains to be seen.
