Luke Watson upset over retirement reports

Cape Town - It appears reports of Luke Watson's retirement from rugby may have been premature...

Netwerk24 reported on Tuesday that Watson had informed the Eastern Province Rugby Union (EPRU) that he was retiring.

However, it has since emerged that the letter Watson sent to the union was just to inform the EPRU that he was no longer available to play for them.

Watson refrained from commenting when probed on the matter, but was reported to be upset on Wednesday over suggestions his rugby career was over.

He was, however, still unwilling to officially comment on the matter.

While Watson’s playing days for the EP Kings are finished, he may yet feature elsewhere for another team - be it locally or abroad.

It was also reported that the PE Police Rugby Club had offered Watson a chance to play for them earlier this year when he failed to make the cut for the Southern Kings’ Super Rugby squad.

The 32-year-old played 10 Tests for the Springboks between 2007 and 2008.

During his career he also featured for the Junior Springboks, Sharks, Stormers/Western Province, Bath (England) and Eastern Province.
