Lions wing Volmink off the hook

Cape Town - Golden Lions wing Anthony Volmink is free to face the Free State Cheetahs this Saturday after being found not guilty of foul play.

Volmink appeared at a disciplinary hearing this week after receiving a yellow card for a dangerous tackle on Western Province’s Dillyn Leyds during last Friday’s Currie Cup match at Newlands.

During the disciplinary hearing it was determined that Volmink’s yellow card was sufficient punishment, as the action from the Lions speedster was not deemed deliberate.

Volmink is therefore eligible for Saturday’s game in Bloemfontein, with Lions coach Swys de Bruin to name his team later on Thursday.

The Cheetahs v Lions clash is scheduled for 17:15 on Saturday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
