Cape Town - Schalk Ferreira will captain the Eastern Province Kings in this season's Currie Cup Premier Division.
After receiving a lifeline to compete in the competition, the cash-strapped union had to rush to assemble a Currie Cup squad.
The Kings’ scheduled opening match against Griquas was postponed last weekend, and they will now start their campaign against Boland in Port Elizabeth this Saturday.
Super Rugby players like Ferreira, Cornel Hess and Martin Bezuidenhout have been included in the squad, while fringe players from other unions - Waylon Murray (Sharks), Sampie Mastriet (Lions) and Ricky Schroeder (Lions) - were also drafted in.
Barend Pieterse, who was the Kings' forwards coach in Super Rugby, will take over the head-coaching role from Deon Davids.
