Erasmus delighted with record-breaking feat

Cape Town - Golden Lions lock Lourens Erasmus couldn't hide his delight after he scored the Currie Cup's fastest ever try in Saturday's win over the Pumas in Johannesburg.

Erasmus' try was registered just 8.5 seconds in to the Lions' 68-26 victory and came after he gathered a loose ball directly from the kick off.

"It is a fantasic feeling to have such a record," he said after the match.

The record was previously held by by Leopards wing Bertie Visser who dotted down after nine seconds in Potchefstroom in 2012.

The 23-year-old admitted that he didn't know it was a record. Erasmus could have scored even faster if he didn't run closer to the posts but said he "wanted to make the conversion kick easier" for Lions goalkicker Jaco van der Walt.
