Blitzbok extends Cheetahs stay

Cape Town - Blitzbok Rayno Benjamin has extended his contract at the Cheetahs by another year, the Free State Rugby Union announced.

The speedy wing made his provincial debut for Boland in 2004.

Benjamin played Super Rugby for the Stormers (2006) and the Lions (2008) before moving to the Bloemfontein in 2011.

He is an entertaining player with 76 Super Rugby caps (18 tries) to his name.

As a Springbok Sevens player he represented South Africa from 2005 to 2007 and again in 2015 after an absence of seven seasons for the first two tournaments.

The 33-year-old was sidelined for more than five months this year after suffering a calf injury while playing for the Blitzboks at the Wellington Sevens event in New Zealand.

He boasts 32 World Rugby Sevens tournaments and has aimed for the 35-tournament milestone.

But for the moment, Benjamin is focusing on the 15-man code.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
