Cape Town - Italian club Treviso have confirmed they have secured the services of Western Province flyhalf Willem de Waal.
According to the RuggaWorld website, De Waal will join the Italian club in November for the remainder of their European campaign.
De Waal, who is currently playing for Western Province in the Currie Cup, will therefore see out the remainder of the competition, but will possibly miss the inaugural Super 15 next year. It is unclear from the Treviso website for just how long they have signed him.
Western Province have Lionel Cronje on their books and Under-21 pivot Gary van Aswegen has made a good impression of late, while Peter Grant is also set to return to the union next year in time for the expanded Super 15, after his current spell in Japan ends.
De Waal, 32, played rugby for Stellenbosch University before making his provincial debut with the Leopards in 2002. He then moved to the Free State Cheetahs in 2004.
In 2007 De Waal signed a two-year deal with French second division club RC Narbonne. However, he returned to South Africa after one season, joining Western Province.
