WP want to win for Jean, Schalk

Cape Town - Western Province captain Deon Fourie says it would be extra special to win the Currie Cup with Jean de Villiers and Schalk Burger in the team.

The two Springbok legends were both injured when WP won the Currie Cup last year and are both yet to play in a victorious Currie Cup team.

This Saturday they will get another chance when WP host the Sharks at Newlands.

And Fourie, who was also the captain when WP broke an 11-year drought by beating the Sharks in the final in Durban last year, said they will use it as extra motivation this weekend.

"We talked about it as a team - that players of their calibre haven't won the Currie Cup. I wouldn't say we owe it to them, but it would be nice to one day when you're old be able to say that you won the Currie Cup with Schalk after he was sidelined for almost two seasons," Fourie told Die Burger's website.

The final at Newlands kicks off at 17:30 on Saturday.
