WP roundabout keeps turning

2011-09-22 12:57

Cape Town - Western Province have announced their squad to take on the Cheetahs in yet another crucial Currie Cup clash at Newlands on Saturday.

Flyhalf, Lionel Cronjé will start at pivot for Allister Coetzee’s charges, replacing Ishma-eel Dollie who has started the last two matches in that position.

The other forced change may involve replacing centre, Johann Sadie, who has fallen ill with a stomach bug.

The move has prompted the coaching staff to reshuffle the backline once more, with the favoured move seemingly moving wing, Danie Poolman to the midfield, should Sadie not recover in time for Saturday’s clash.

“Danie has been training this week, but Johann took a bump against the Bulls, and is now sick. I think it’s a stomach bug or something, and we will make a call on him on Friday,” WP backline coach Robbie Fleck told Thursday’s Cape Times.

“Berton Klaasen has been with us and is a centre, but he and Marcel Brache are inside centres. We are looking at under-21 player Michael van der Spuy, as well as Stokkies Hanekom and Tiger Bax.

“The other option is to move Danie to 13, and bring in Bom (Shuaib Samaai) at wing. Danie has played at outside centre for the under-21s and in the Varsity Cup, while Bom has played a lot of Currie Cup rugby for the Leopards. We will look at all our options tomorrow at practice.”

Meanwhile, Cronjé, who will leave WP after the end of the current campaign after signing for the Blue Bulls earlier this week ,joins the exodus of young talent leaving the Mother City, while Dollie will be left out in the cold once again.

“I feel for Ish, as he was finding his rhythm within the team. But Lionel is 100% fit, and is the only flyhalf at our disposal, so he is back in the mix,” Fleck said.

“We always talk to him about control, but we want him to bring his natural talent to the game. He is a dangerous player and we will back him on that, obviously within the game plan we use.”

@WPBLIKSEM HA HA HA Not in 2011 my boy Your next three games: Cheetahs, Sharks, Lions = Lose, lose, lose

      Fleckie - 2011-09-22 21:10

      @Mr Mojo They've been depleted since 2001

  • Fleckie - 2011-09-22 13:13

How much longer until Catrikilis can play again?? He's a reali good player and I'd pick him b4 Grant. Pitty that Cronje is also leaving for the bulls. I'd pick Stokkies Hanekom at 13, reali good player and would be a good long term replacement for Sadie. They played together at u21 level. Groom with time will be better than Duvies so its a pity he's injured.

      Jou - 2011-09-22 15:04

That my friend, is why you are a WP supporter. With statements like that

  • Fleckie - 2011-09-22 13:17

Wouldve been a perfect time for Frans Malherbe to start and get some quality game time b4 next years Super15. havent seen JD Mollers name in ages, hope he's fit enough. We reali gonna be in the poo if brok gets injured now. KOLISI needs to start and I think Fenton-wells is not ready for this level yet.

I understand full well why the Cape flats brigade is often up in arms over Coetzee's selections. With Sadie possibly out, Coetzee would rather move a wing (Poolman) to centre, but finds it problematic to move an inside centre (Klaasen or Brache) to outside centre. The same with Dollie. When he plays,he doesn't even get a full hours playing time. He would rather move a scrumhalf to flyhalf and replace a very able goal kicker. Dolly in a way seems to be in the same mould as Morne Steyn. He might even be more skilfull then Steyn.

      Fleckie - 2011-09-22 13:29

POOLMAN never reali impresses me, he's big and strong but pretty soft in the contact and never dominates like he should, also lacks pace for a wing. Mbovane is prob a beta bet on the wing

      GHT - 2011-09-22 13:42

Poolman IS an outside center. That's where he played his entire Maties career and at WP junior levels.

      24browser - 2011-09-22 13:54

@ GHT Then why is he being played on the wing for the stormers and WP? Shuaib "bom" Samaai and many others are out and out wingers who have been traiinng with WP/stormers since the beg of this year yet they never got a chance to play!!! He is a centre but plays wing!!

      Jou - 2011-09-22 15:08

@24 Browser - He plays on the wing because there isnt really space for outside centres with players like Fourie, De Jong and Sadie. @Kwezi The Cape Flats brigade shouldnt really worry about WP, they should rather worry about the teams they support (All Blacks/Crusaders) instead of their second team WP which they only support when they play the rest of the SA teams.

      24browser - 2011-09-22 16:02

@ Jou So danie poolman is so good that they have to accomodate a place for him in the stormers/WP team on the wing?? LOL

  • Francois - 2011-09-22 13:27

  • 24browser - 2011-09-22 13:48

“I feel for Ish, as he was finding his rhythm within the team" Whatever AC. You are a liar!! the guy never even got decent game time to show what his made of. And why are Kolisi and Carr still warming the bench??? Daniller and wells are average and are still starting. This is a typical example of how the average whites get preference to average "coloured/blacks"

      Shistirrer - 2011-09-22 13:56

Are you seriously accusing Allister Coetzee of racism? That's the most laughable thing I've ever seen on these forums, and I've seen some doozies (né, Brannas?). AC just does what is right for the team and fits the strategy, colour has never been an issue with him, except blue and white hoops with a red disa.

      24browser - 2011-09-22 13:57

      He is a PUPPET!

      Shistirrer - 2011-09-22 14:06

      And you are a muppet.

      SAFFA-CAT - 2011-09-22 14:11

I rate Kurt Coleman highly....I don't rate Dollie - tell me where colour plays in a role in my call?

      Kaapie - 2011-09-22 15:36

@ Shistirrer explain why Kolisi and carr are not ahead of Wells and Daniller. Why Kitshoff was chosen ahead of either Kolisi and carr and again having to suk hind tit again..

      24browser - 2011-09-22 15:44

FYI i also rate kurt! If i remember correctly kurt played 2 games for the stormers,he got injured shortly after that. they picked him coz there wasnt anybody else! Hopefully when his fit they'll give him an extended go. My point is that average white guys gets PREFERENCE to average coloureds/blacks. poolman, de kock, daniller, wells and many more gets prefered and gets given oppurtunity after oppurtunity to prove themselves. For a coloured/black player to make a WP/Stormers team, you have to be a gio aplon or juan de jonge(world class).

      Kaapie - 2011-09-22 16:34

And BROWSER EVEN THEN HOW LONG DID IT TAKE APLON TO CEMENT HIS PLACE

  • Coenstar - 2011-09-22 14:25

Fleckie I agree that Kolisi has to start he has impressed ever since he came onto the scene, couldn't wait to see him in action against the Crusaders for that semi but unfortunately it didn't happen. As for Ish he is just cr@p would pick Coleman over him any day.

  • King Solomon - 2011-09-22 14:51

Why is everyone leaving WP? Don't they have enough money to keep the good players? Is WPRU broke?

      Jou - 2011-09-22 15:16

Because they wasted all their money buying the other teams hasbeen players like Habana. WP cant recognise talent, by the time they realise a player is good that player has already signed with another team

  • Fleckie - 2011-09-22 17:49

I think it's time they move WP to the CurrieCUP B-division now. These jokers have had 10 years to show us something and ZERO happened. EP will nail WP 20+ at this stage JOKERS OF WORLD RUGBY

      Fleckie - 2011-09-22 18:47

Stop using my Name u tool, we can all smell u support the bulls
