Cape Town - Western Province identified their flaws after a less-than-impressive win over the Leopards at Newlands on Saturday.
Coach Allister Coetzee was not happy with his charges, even though they still managed a relatively comfortable 49-21 win.
The team viewed a video of their Leopards outing on Monday, and the side's shortcomings will be tackled this week.
They meet the Blue Bulls in Pretoria on Saturday.
Coetzee said the 'culprits' were identified after the side's defence let in soft early tries in their win over the Leopards.
"We've established that it came down to individual mistakes when players did not adhere to the system and the guilty parties owned up," said Coetzee.
"There were one-on-one misses but we must also give credit to the Leopards for exploiting our lapses and the way they prevented us from getting our hands on the ball at the start."
Coetzee sees the upcoming Bulls clash as the season's defining moment for his side.
"They're a different side to the one we played in the first round so we have a chance to see how much progress we've made," said Coetzee.
"The outcome will also determine what our fortunes will be over the next few weeks.
"We know that we have to earn a win at Loftus, where it will be intense and we need to produce a special performance to come away with a good result."
Meanwhile, the coach also expressed his dismay after prop Wicus Blaauw was ruled out for the season earlier on Monday due to a wrist injury.
The 25-year-old Namibian-born loosehead will go for an operation on Thursday.
The lay-off means he will have to wait another season to make a 50th Currie Cup appearance.
"It's cruel luck for Wicus, seeing he's just come off a long rehab programme and then doing well on his return on Saturday," said Coetzee.
