Cape Town - Just when Western Province finally seemed to field a fit flyhalf, the curse of the No 10 jersey has struck again.
WP coach, Allister Coetzee, will be holding thumbs on Monday for a good medical report after Gary van Aswegen left the field limping late on in their Currie Cup draw against Griquas.
Luckily for Coetzee it doesn't seem like Van Aswegen damaged the same ligaments he injured against the Lions at Coca-Cola Park in April.
"It doesn't look that serious. It's probably only some damaged cartilage rather than ligament problems," said Coetzee.
"We will get him examined today (Monday) and will then know. We hope it's not worse than we think. Gary is positive and is walking comfortably."
But Van Aswegen's participation in Friday's clash against the Leopards in Potchefstroom is definitely in doubt. He was replaced on Saturday by the Ikey-star, Demetri Catrakilis, and the only other option is probably Isma-eel Dollie.
WP's two other flyhalves - Kurt Coleman and Lionel Cronjé - are both still out injured. Coleman is expected back in two weeks' time, but Cronjé will in all likelihood only be fit at the end of September.
Coetzee may well be able to call on the services of scrumhalf Dewaldt Duvenage and loose forward Pieter Louw.
Duvenage performed quite well at flyhalf on a few occasions for the Stormers in the Super Rugby competition, but his experience at No 9 would be of far more value for Province.
A fit Louw could also mean a lot for WP as an openside flanker.
