WP ease past Bulls at Newlands

Cape Town - Western Province ran out comfortable 29-14 winners against the Blue Bulls in a Currie Cup clash at Newlands on Friday night.

The win sees coach John Dobson’s side solidify their position in third place on the log, and they are now just a single point behind the Blue Bulls in second.

WP scored early on through Dillyn Leyds, who capitalised after a break from Johnny Kotze.

The home side were then two tries to the good inside 10 minutes when inside centre Huw Jones crashed over from close range.

Two penalties from Bulls flyhalf Louis Fouche then made it 12-6, but another penalty from each side made it 15-9 as the sides went into the break.

The second half saw WP flyhalf Robert du Preez extend his side’s lead to 24-9 with three penalties before the Blue bulls hit back with a try through wing Travis Ismaiel.

But WP restored their lead with a late try through substitute scrumhalf Jano Vermaak.
