Cape Town - Western Province revealed that captain Jean de Villiers will miss the remainder of the Currie Cup with a Grade One hamstring strain, but he is not considered doubtful for the Springboks' year-end tour next month.
The WP and Bok skipper was sent for a scan on Wednesday afternoon after being forced to withdraw from this weekend's Currie Cup semi-final clash against the Golden Lions.
After consultation with the WP team doctor, Arthur Williams, and further advice from a specialist, De Villiers faces a three-week layoff. However, the experienced centre is not considered doubtful for the Springboks' year-end tour of Ireland, Scotland and England in November.
Marcel Brache will take De Villiers's placed in the WP midfield against the Lions at Coca-Cola Park on Saturday (19:00 kick-off), with flanker Deon Fourie taking over as captain.
