Cape Town - English Premiership side, Newcastle Falcons, are hunting the services of Free State Cheetahs centre Corné Uys.
According to the website, chroniclelive.co.uk, the Falcons want Uys to play for them as early as September 17, when they take on the Leicester Tigers at Kingston Park.
Uys (28) has been in talks with the club for more than a month, and Falcons coach Alan Tait is optimistic that the Free Stater could join them.
The necessary paperwork appears to be all that stands between Uys and his family moving to Newcastle. They are, however, struggling to sort out the required visas and permits for Uys and his family.
“Until these things are all sorted you just never know, but we are working hard to get it done," said Tait.
Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské told the Volksblad newspaper that he is happy for Uys to leave and won't hesitate to grant him an early release from his contract. He is contracted with Free State until October.
"We told Corné we will release him if things work out for him overseas. We already have four contracted centres for next year. He has always been honest with us and told us he would like to go overseas and finish his career there," said Drotské.
Uys could then fill former Springbok centre, Gcobani Bobo's gap at Newcastle. Bobo has played for the club since 2009, but his contract was not renewed earlier this year.
