Taute walked off the field in his side’s 22-20 win over the Sharks this past weekend with his arm in a sling, with Lions officials hoping he would not be sidelined should they qualify for the playoff rounds of the Currie Cup competition.
On Monday, however, Taute underwent a scan that showed no torn ligaments but will still need some rest before returning to the field.
Lions team manager Mustapha Boogaardt told SuperSport.com there was some relief it wasn’t a worse injury.
“It isn’t ligaments and for that we are thankful,” Boogaardt said, “But the doctor has said he will have to sit on the sidelines for three weeks.”
This means Taute may still have an outside chance of playing in a semifinal if the Lions qualify.
The Lions took the day off on Monday to share a braai with the Abraham Kriel Children’s home rather than their normal afternoon training session.
