Cape Town - Former Springbok coach Rudolf Straeuli is set to leave the Sharks to take up a role with the Golden Lions Rugby Union, a report on the Beeld website indicates.
Straeuli, who was the Sharks' commercial manager in recent years, will leave his post at the end of this month. It is still unsure exactly what role he will fulfil in Johannesburg but it could be similar to what he did in Durban, where he successfully negotiated contract deals of players.
Lions CEO Manie Booysen said they are still negotiating the finer details of the role with Straeuli, but stressed that the former coach will add immense value to the union.
Straeuli was contracted to the Sharks until the end of 2014, but an agreement with CEO John Smit was reportedly reached to end his contract earlier.
The 50-year-old Straeuli played 10 Tests for the Springboks in the mid-1990s and also coached the Sharks (1999-2001) and the Springboks (2002-2003).
