Sharks shake up pack for final

2012-10-24 20:41

Cape Town - Sharks coach John Plumtree has rolled out the heavy artillery for their Currie Cup final against Western Province in Durban on Saturday.

Plumtree on Wednesday retained the same backline which started in the 20-3 semi-final win over the Blue Bulls last week, but brought back a few heavies to bolster his pack for the Kings Park showpiece.

In the front row Springbok Tendai Mtawarira starts at loosehead prop in place of Dale Chadwick, with Bok squad member Craig Burden replacing Kyle Cooper at hooker. Jannie du Plessis - cleared after suffering concussion against the Bulls - remains at tighthead.

In other changes up front, Willem Alberts replaces Jean Deysel at flank, while Steven Sykes starts ahead of Jandre Marais at lock.

Odwa Ndungane also returns on the bench after an injury lay-off. Plumtree this time went for 4-3 forwards-backs split on the bench, which means prop Chadwick misses out altogether.

The final kicks off at 17:00.

Potent team! Won't be an easy game, but if the Sharks give it 100% for the full 80 minutes, then they should be champions! Sharks Forever!

If Province want to win this one they have to dominate up front, I don't that will happen!!! Sharks have to many excellent players!

The party is usually after the game. If they just come to the party, they'll miss the game.

  • david.s.duncan.1 - 2012-10-24 21:15

Add Frans Steyn and Bissie to that side...geez I'm excited for next years Super 15. But we have a CC final to get through first. WP are probably 2/3 years away from getting the best out of their young players coming through. If Sharks hold their nerve and play to their potential, we should be too much to handle. Go Sharks!!

      lean.sadie - 2012-10-24 22:55

Very true. Don't forget all the people out for wp either and the ones coming to stormers. Will make it completely different team.

    Sharks Forever!

  • wayne.mostert.18 - 2012-10-24 22:25

Province by 3 on Saturday. I am not reading too much into the Sharks win over the Bulls because the Bulls played so crap. It was funny to hear Dewald Potgieter say after the match that they never had much ball but when they did have it, they kicked it away into the hands of the Sharks - very similar to what the Boks did under HM. Maybe somebody should explain to the Bulls that you need the ball to score points.

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2012-10-25 00:08

Ou dowwe paramedic is maar net suurgat. Wayne, I agree with you. The Bulls gave away silly penalties. They stopped playing before they ran onto the field. The Sharks took them on with their own game-plan of kick and chase and it worked for them, because they knew the ball will only be kicked back to them. The WP won't do the same - but I also don't expect the Sharks to use the same gameplan. Unlike Heineken or Pine, Plumtree has more than one gameplan. Plus the Sharks scored only one try, gifted to them by Wallaby Hougaard. I think he is also one of the many Pink Sharks supporters in Tshwane.

      paul.sdoow - 2012-10-25 12:01

and wp beat the bulls a few times affor that. so say thanks ws for giving bulls a chance

  • norman.branders - 2012-10-24 22:35

With Brache not starting the backline will be DYNAMITE! GO WP!

      rian.vanwyk.7 - 2012-10-25 09:14

julle het 2 games teen ons gehad in reen....en wat het gebeur? i rest my case...hoeveel kanse wil julle in die reen he? lmao

  • chrisin.oz.1 - 2012-10-25 00:00

Well, now the WP know where the Sharks will play the game and where they will be taken on. I just hope they are up to the challenge. I'm still concerned about Frans Malherbe in the front row. They should have started with Harris and Carstens.

  • brent.lee.1088 - 2012-10-25 00:15

Damn that's a good looking team! They look very strong.... I am a sharks fan but I'm just hoping for a great game, win or lose, good luck to both teams!

  • burger.geldenhuys - 2012-10-25 00:42

I'm a big natal man.. But I hope province wins just so the bulls supporters would shut up about 11 years! It is getting old.

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2012-10-25 01:39

You know they will not shut up about the 11 years. They can hardly shut up about their Super 14 win in 2007. Not that they are saying anything about their 57 year cupless period.

      peester.groenewald - 2012-10-25 01:48

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2012-10-25 02:48

Dowwe paramedic, and how many years do you count between 1889 and 1946?

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2012-10-25 02:58

I will check your answer tomorrow, because I know it will take a loooooong time to work that out. Maybe ask your nurses for some help. And remember you have toes as well - not enough, but maybe it can help a bit.

      tertius.devereaux.1 - 2012-10-25 06:39

Chrisin as jy niks het om te se moet dit dan nie se nie...f*k

      BlouMasjien1 - 2012-10-25 08:27

@Raven,actually it was shared it twice by Border(1932 1934). Griquasland West won the Currie Cup outright in 1899 and 1911

      paul.sdoow - 2012-10-25 11:50

would rather be 12year cupless than be full of bull oops sorry be a bull supporter

  • vernon.annandale.7 - 2012-10-25 06:19

Power SHARKS team that!!! Let's hope they can do the job, good luck to both teams and coaching staff, may the best team win! SHARKS 4 LIFE!

  • gary.doyle.520 - 2012-10-25 07:12

Great team, I think Plums has got it right with the boks over last few weeks. But this game is not going to be a walk over like some people think. Fortenately Sharks have good final experience and will play the game accordingly. Tight game but Sharks to win.

  • kagiso.k.seleka - 2012-10-25 07:48

Province can just forget it! These forwards are going to demolish them! Should be a good game!

  • tim.kilpin - 2012-10-25 09:12

Great team - sorry for Dale as he has played hard all season and is not even in the match 22

      shona.williams.739 - 2012-10-25 13:58

Yeah he's played all Currie Cup then dropped for final. I'm actually very glad though, his performance has been shocking lately but i think it's just cos he's tired. So glad we have Beast back

  • nagou.grote - 2012-10-25 12:33
