Cape Town - The Sharks will have to play without lock Ross Skeate in their Currie Cup clash against the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday after he broke his nose against the Pumas over the weekend.
Sharks team Doctor, Ewoudt van der Linde, told the Beeld newspaper that Skeate will be out of action for a couple of weeks.
The 2.01m lock broke his nose early on in the Sharks' 33-20 win over the Pumas at Kings Park. He was replaced by Anton Bresler, who performed well and should partner Alistair Hargreaves in the second row this coming weekend.
Meanwhile, there's also uncertainty on the availability of Springbok scrumhalf Charl McLeod for the Cheetahs game. McLeod injured his shoulder two weeks ago and missed the clash against the Pumas. He will have to pass a fitness test on Thursday to determine his availability for the trip to Bloemfontein.
"His chance is about 50% to play. If he's not ready for this match, then he will definitely be ready for next weekend's game (against Griquas at Kings Park)," said Van der Linde.
Sharks coach John Plumtree was also not happy with their lacklustre performance against the Pumas and expects a much better effort from his charges this weekend at the Free State Stadium.
"The Cheetahs (game) is always a big one for us and I believe the players won't have a lack of motivation against them. It's the matches against the smaller unions that bother me this season - where we are not playing with the necessary intensity," said Plumtree.
