Cape Town - The Sharks' Springbok scrumhalf Charl McLeod has been ruled out of their Currie Cup clash against the Pumas in Durban on Saturday due to injury.
McLeod injured his shoulder during the Sharks' 39-27 win over the Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld over the weekend.
Sharks team doctor, Ewoudt van der Linde, told the Beeld newspaper that the No 9 might be out of action for up to two weeks.
Conrad Hoffmann will replace McLeod in the Sharks' No 9 jumper, with Ross Cronjé expected to come in on the bench.
Despite the injury, Sharks coach John Plumtree says he is happy with Hoffmann at No 9. Hoffmann replaced McLeod early in the clash at Loftus and performed well.
“I thought he (Hoffmann) played really well. He’s been under a bit of pressure, he was much more accurate and his kicking game was good; it was really nice to see him play well," Plumtree told Sharks website editor, Michael Marnewick.
The Sharks take on a Pumas side still looking for their first win of the Currie Cup season, but Plumtree says they will by no means underestimate the men from Witbank.
In fact, the coach admits he is a bit perplexed as to why the Pumas are yet to win a match in this year's competition.
"I don't understand it. They are one of the toughest teams to play against and have hardened players. The Pumas deserve a lot more than what their (log) position shows," he told Beeld.
"They really are not a team one could take lightly."
Therefore, Plumtree has stressed that they won't be out to hunt for a bonus point on Saturday.
"For me it's just about getting the win. Four tries will be an absolute bonus," said Plumtree.
