Sharks hungry for success

Cape Town - Sharks coach John Plumtree says his Rugby World Cup Springboks are hungry to achieve success after their disappointment in New Zealand.

This hunger showed over the weekend when the Sharks demolished the table-topping Golden Lions 53-9 at Kings Park to set up a home semi-final against the Free Sate Cheetahs.

Plumtree said the returning players have put their RWC failure behind them and are now fully focused on defending their Currie Cup crown.

The coach told the Beeld newspaper he held a braai at his house to build up a bit of camaraderie within the squad after the Boks returned from New Zealand.

"It actually cost me R1 000 to feed them, but hopefully it was worth it and will be portrayed on the field.

"I want to see the same physicality that there was against the Lions against the Cheetahs.

"We have to dominate up front and make sure that we own the advantage line," said Plumtree.

Meanwhile, the Sharks are holding their breaths over the availability of lock/loose forward Jean Deysel and wing Lwazi Mvovo for the semi-final.

Deysel injured his back against the Lions, while Mvovo picked up a hip injury.

Both will have to pass a fitness test later this week in order to be included in the squad to take on the Free Staters.
