Peyper, Jonker on semi duty

2011-10-18 15:05

Cape Town - Jaco Peyper and Marius Jonker have been appointed to referee the two Absa Currie Cup semi-finals this weekend.

Peyper will take charge of the match between the Golden Lions and Western Province at Coca-Cola Park, while Jonker has been handed the refereeing responsibilities in the semi-final between the Sharks and the Free State Cheetahs in Durban.

Commenting on the appointments, André Watson, general manager of the South African Rugby Union’s Referees, said: “Both Jaco and Marius are vastly experienced and have proven track records at the highest levels of the game.

“We’re confident that both these referees have what it takes to make a success of crunch games such as the Absa Currie Cup semi-finals.

Peyper will be assisted by Stuart Berry and Cobus Wessels, with Gerrie Coetzee named the Television Match Official.

Jonker’s assistants will be Pro Legoete and Marc van Zyl, with JC Fortuin appointed as TMO.

I am so glad that Jaco “Penalty” Peyper isn’t reffing the Sharks game after his penalty spree against the Sharks earlier in the year and the two horrendous decisions he made against the Sharks on the weekend as assistant referee (“chargedown” which actually came off the back of a Lions player, and calling Bis ahead of the kicker when he wasn’t). Why is he being rewarded with a semis game ahead of guys like Mark Lawrence? If I was a WP supporter I would be very worried.

Skinfaxi,I am worried about Peyper, that man knows how to ruin a good game of rugby:(:( Surely there must be better Refs than him,Stuart Berry looks fairly decent and as you say where is Mark Lawrence,I know Lawrence has retired from International rugby but not CC, Good luck to your team Sat,hope we meet in the final!!!!!!!!

Suiper & Plonker! How to screw up two potentially good games of rugby! As a WP supporter I think we got the worst of the 2.

LOOKING FOR EXCUSES BEFORE THE GAME EVEN HAS STARTED I SEE..............

      Philip - 2011-10-18 15:52

No excuses on the result, I'm commenting on the quality of the refs....

Give us Bryce Lawrence, we can at least buy him I reckon!!!!

      Philip - 2011-10-18 16:00

Not even an offer of danger pay would be enough to convince him to come to SA I reckon!!!!!

    doesn't Jonker live in Natal...?

      Skinfaxi - 2011-10-18 17:26

@Jannie – I believe that Marius Jonker hails from Richards Bay and that he supports the Bulls.

Jonker JA...Peyper NEEEEEEE!!!!!
